Eliminating grad plus loans means that no one will be able to afford going to these programs without taking on massive private loans that aren’t subject to pslf or income based repayment.

In effect this will mean no one can afford to work for the government agencies or for rural hospitals.
House/Senate are set to eliminate Grad PLUS, and put in place loan limits that would dramatically restrict graduate borrowing. Media coverage emphasizes impact this may have on very expensive programs like Medicine and Dentistry, but @peerresearch.bsky.social finds impact will be much(!) broader 1/

This is, in no uncertain terms, a rout.

The New York Times published an unfortunate op-ed trying to legally justify Trump administration's #Birthright citizenship order.

Here, five leading scholars show, with analytic precision, how that op-ed was "fundamentally flawed and irresponsible."⬇️
The Fundamental Flaws in the Barnett/Wurman Defense of Trump’s Birthright Citizenship Executive Order
"In their apparent effort to give credence to the Trump Executive Order, Professors Barnett and Wurman indefensibly ignore these core, constitutive principles."

Public comment is now open for passport gender marker changes.

You can go here to go to each of the three proposed passport rules, and submit comment.

My suggestion: be unique, argue for trans-inclusive policies, against the constitutionality of the changes, etc.

No it hasn’t. The federal government filed a civil suit—echoing the same theory of liability on which the first Trump administration *lost* in most of the courts to hear it.

To say DOJ “filed charges” is to deliberately make it sound more significant and threatening than it actually is.
Pam Bondi announces the DOJ has "filed charges against the state of New York, Kathy Hochul, Letitia James, and Mark Schroeder"

Major AI/fair use decision out of D. Del today. It is not good news for AI proponents for many reasons, including:
1: The judge reversed his own prior ruling that was more AI-favorable.
2: This is one of the three cases I thought most strongly favored AI

It is “apparent that to our president, the rule of law is but an impediment to his policy goals. The rule of law is, according to him, something to navigate around or simply ignore…for political or personal gain.”

I find this so ugly and pernicious. These two aren't pursuing principled, independent scholarship. They're racing to build intellectual scaffolding for Trump's lawless order by skimming the history books and cherry-picking quotes out of context. The most intellectually bankrupt form of originalism.
