Attacking public education is a classic authoritarian tactic because schools teach critical thinking and foster pluralism. In my new book, "Why Fascists Fear Teachers," I talk about what this fight for public education means for our democracy.

It feels like being thrown out of your home after you’ve finally learned what home feels like.

I am going to try to go back to grief counseling because everything I’ve been through and accomplished so far in this emotional state is apparently not enough and somehow also too much.

Exactly right.
Remember, the Holocaust didn’t start with gas chambers in Auschwitz.

It started with politicians dividing the people with “us vs. them”.

It started with intolerance and hate speech.

It started when people stopped caring, became desensitized, and turned a blind eye.

Remember.

Is there some kind of group with these features: 1. neurodivergent people 2. grieving major losses 3. during the destruction of democracy, the climate, and reality itself?

Decorated the house for Halloween, then made a pasta bake in my late mom's Corningware casserole dish. Ordered a ring with a big coffin-shaped onyx stone in it to wear on my left hand; will proudly identify it as my dead husband ring if asked. #widow #grief

Disney/ABC have a responsibility to refuse to participate in corruption.

Kimmel must be reinstated. If Disney/ABC agree to this extortion then perhaps creatives + workers should consider collective action to push back. Same w/buying park + cruise tickets if they bow.

Sitting on my porch drinking tequila and starting my re-reading of The Southern Reach ( @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social ) quadrillogy, which seems like an okay Friday night activity in these times.

I am enjoying my cute city crone porch.

Haven’t Blueskyped in a while. It’s been about a month since I moved to Pittsburgh and things are going very well. I’m calling this time a personal sabbatical. I’m still sad, the absence still howls like 100 decibels of static. But I met two dogs and four new neighbors yesterday.
