Thanks to you, orphaned elephants always have a home.

For the youngest, that means a Keeper beside them through the night – sleeping above them, waking for feeds, offering comfort when they need it most.

We feared Mwashoti would never walk again after a devastating snare injury. Now he plays referee, greets new arrivals, clears buffaloes for his Keepers, and waits each morning for Murera. The gentlest of giants.

Today is National Winnie the Pooh day.
The date celebrates the birthday of author, A. A. Milne in 1882

November 2025: An elephant in the Mara, frantically scratching against trees – an arrowhead embedded in his backside. Our SWT/KWS Mara Vet Unit darted him, cleaned the wound, administered antibiotics.

He wasn't the only patient that day. Olubi the lion was next.

Meet Arthi – our resident alarm clock.

When Keepers were five minutes late opening the gates, this young bull trumpeted until someone got the message. He's also tried sneaking early to the mud bath for milk – and sulked under a tree when it didn't work.

What happens when orphaned elephants grow up? Do they remember their human family?

We've reintegrated nearly 200 orphans – and they never truly forget their Keepers. Now? They protect them in return.

"If a man has not discovered something that he will die for, he isn't fit to live."

It begs the question are you living for what you are willing to die for? If not, what do you need to change? What is crowding out those things for which you are passionate?

Vehicles that are abandoned due to an ICE detention and towed to the City's impound lot will be released to their owners or a representative at no cost.

Given how absolute shit things are, this was an unexpected kindness. I credit the good feelings engendered by the Mamdani administration. :)

Also the good people at the MTA.

Not all our Keepers wear green!

Zebra foals imprint on their mothers by recognising their unique patterns of stripes. When we rescued this little foal - orphaned after a lion attack - we dusted off our Zebra coat, so that she didn’t feel alone and knew who to follow.
