I always enjoy Tim's writing, but I don’t love the way his latest Globe piece downplays the real benefits. For example, estimates suggest that YouTube alone supports 28,000 FTEs in Canada. Hard to be flippant about the value there! www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti...

.@MarkJCarney wants Canada to be the best place in the world to invest. In tech, we’ve screwed it up before with protectionism that scared folks off. We can’t afford to mess it up again.

The #DST never really made sense and was always going to be passed on to Canadians.
The budget *references* DST repeal a few times and even says CRA will wind down the team working on it – but there's nothing formally repealing it in the Ways and Means Motion.

Oh, and: the feds will create an Office of Digital Transformation to push “sovereign AI tools” in government. The new digital sovereignty paper feels pragmatic–so I expect room for global tech tools alongside homegrown ones. But more from me on this soon.

And, third, is the government's promise to formally rescind the Digital Services Tax (or DST), which is hinted at in the budget but not actually reflected in the Ways and Means Motion. The tax never really made sense, so will be checking the BIA to see how they follow through
