Tfw you wanted to quit watching a movie an hour in but the last frame makes it all worthwhile. International cinema!

Based on the masterpiece by a writer whose slow, agonizing death from tuberculosis was almost certainly less painful than surviving to witness this adaptation ...
First trailer for Andy Serkis’ ‘ANIMAL FARM’ has dropped.

In theaters May 1.

One thing that studio award campaigners fail to recognize is the ability of critics to pivot from being Big Mad about one thing to another on a dime.
And sure enough... (my critics' group's ballots are due tomorrow).

Someone should do Kanopy Kloset videos to remind people that they can see amazing movies at home for free.
Two excellent films released in the US earlier this year have just been added to Kanopy: Alain Guiraudie's MISERICORDIA and Boris Lojkine's SOULEYMANE'S STORY. Both are free to stream without ads or subscriptions, all through participating libraries.

This is your annual reminder that the Time Person of the Year award is NOT meant as an endorsement, for example they gave the award to Adolf Hitler in 1938, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, and 1943 (when the magazine was renamed Hitler Monthly)

Old enough to remember when Disney so preciously valued their legacy that they'd only on rare occasions open "the vault" to sell individual copies of classic movies to families on VHS and would otherwise sue into bankruptcy anyone who did an unauthorized doodle of Steamboat Willie.
We’re in a bold new era of soulless slop. Deeply unethical when it comes to art, labour, the environment, and the entertainment landscape at large.

they've put some downright awful people on the cover (including "me") but what, in the actual, fuck.
This...looks terrible? Is the magazine making some point about what AI still can't do, because otherwise, I don't get why you'd go out with something that looks like it was put together with safety scissors and Elmer's Glue.

I saw a preview of FIRST COW at @siffnews.bsky.social Film Center in February 2020 before it disappeared into our new streaming reality.

Six years later it will be there again for one night.

Genuinely laughing out loud that the screener for RESURRECTION will not abide by the misguided desire to watch the movie in the morning.

Slowly making my way through MY UNDESIRABLE FRIENDS and am astonished by those who watched in a single sitting. We don't have to make the movies fight, but so far I find it to be the vastly more potent companion to this year's valedictory COVER-UP or cassandrian ORWELL 2+2=5 journalism docs.

This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.

This is not exactly true, but going to Toronto to see WAKE UP DEAD MAN at an 8 am TIFF press screening felt only slightly less inconvenient than getting to the nearest Seattle area theatrical screening without a car.
I know, I’m sorry and I’m just as frustrated as you it’s not in more theaters. We really tried.

Dunking on Stewart for a factual error by the interviewer is extremely validating to what she's actually talking about.
