Interesting thread. I think it's incredibly important to remember that not only does GenAI make mistakes & hallucinate, but it's also SPECIFICALLY designed to write code that LOOKS correct. Making it all that harder to find errors in the code. Bad code usually has a smell. But AI shit doesn't stink.
One of the many joys of using AI for programming is the creation of huge PRs on complex topics that the authors barely understand, but still suggest "because they work". Here's a great example from #OCaml github.com/ocaml/ocaml/...

Kudos to OCaml's maintainers for handling this so gracefully.

Content warning: #ACAB

Every police department should treat a PIT maneuver like a gun discharge: automatic suspension of duty for the police officer until they are cleared, justification for the use of the PIT maneuver, and the possibility for the owner of the vehicle to sue.

@caitlinrozakis.bsky.social just finished reading Grimoire Grammar School PTA with my son. We also really liked Dreadful. Excited to see you have Startup Hell coming out next year. Is there a way to pre-order a copy with your signature?

For any GitHub url that shows differences, you can add .patch or .diff at the end of the URL and it will output the differences in plaintext patch/diff format.

Example, regular page: github.com/getmoto/moto...

Patch: github.com/getmoto/moto...

Diff: github.com/getmoto/moto...

The problem with ebooks is no one can see what a cool person you are because of the book you're reading. When I invent my 3d holographic projector that creates a fake book cover that shows people what you're reading I'm going to make a fortune.

Even more money if you have to pay to turn it off.

I'm on the train behind two people who are geeking out about public transportation on a neurodivergent level and it is filling my heart with joy.

How engrossing is the #murderbot series by @marthawells.com?

I nearly missed my stop while reading Artificial Condition on the train.

You have been warned.

Dear companies, I can't stress this enough: do not take money that isn't yours.
The TLDR as I understand - the company expected an incoming investment for a magazine project, took money out the author royalties account to pre spend the investment, the investment fell through, author money can't be repaid by investment.

That's my good faith understanding of those events.

So, I think it's time I begin, in detailed specifics, talking about the mess that is Unbound / Boundless as a book publisher, in essence stealing most of a years royalties from me and many other authors, as a result of poor financial decisions, and legal BS.

Please read and share this thread.

Main character energy is OUT, this summer we’re bringing NPC energy. We’re posted up at the bar dropping lore and suggesting side quests. We’re leaning casually near a locked door and saying “I don’t think you have the key for that” when someone tries the handle. We’re staring at a tree.

Does anyone else miss when you could algorithmically get no results in a search? Meaning you got matches for what you searched and only what you searched for?

Now it's nearly impossible to only get matches for your actual words.

I am pretty happy with the current Mac OSX infrastructure, especially the command line, but sometimes I remember the classic MacOs stuff and feel a pang of nostalgia.

Remember Stuffit? RegEdit? HyperCard? I know it's rose-tinted glasses but software just seemed better back then.
