This column on Vox is the biggest pile of steaming AI crap I've seen this year. Human's aren't running out of ideas. Instead, those with power and money don't want to listen to ideas that threaten their power and money.

Ideas are plentiful. Putting those ideas into action is the hard part.
We’re running out of good ideas. AI might be how we find new ones.
What if the best use of AI is restarting the world’s idea machine?

2600 words done on a wild seance story about war, honor, fate, and free will, and at just about the halfway mark. Feeling pretty good about this one. Calling it "Tho' It Be From the Shadows."

Sam Altman shows his own ass. JFC is he truly this idiotic? The dealer smoking his own supply. #SayNoToGenAI #BrainRot

TURN was one of my summer beach reads this year and it was a blast! Check it out, peoples.
#buymybooks Did you know I wrote a novella riffing on the Dracula/Renfield relationship, but set in the world of hardcore indie death-match pro wrestling?

It’s called TURN (see what I did there?) and it’s available now on the ‘zon or direct from me.

Add this spandex gothic horror to your TBR.

The Babysitter Lives is my 2nd favorite SGJ jam. TBHH knocked it off the top of the staircase earlier this year.
(maybe also if you have Certain Feelings regarding lizards?)
@sgj.bsky.social writing a haunted house novel is like Escher meets Poe. This house isn't haunted, it's harboring a menacing threat. If you enjoy terrifying time loops and hate nanny cams this is one for you.

I would/will smash the shit out of these pieces of garbage and anyone filming me with these things, ever.
It’s almost as if the relationship to IP and “content” hinging on societal position was a bad idea . And that the lack of heavy push back is directly connected to societal power and when the targets feel safe enough

They BREAK shit.
In terms of what’s understood to be socially acceptable behavior, normalizing the filming/taking pictures of people in public who are minding their own business (and putting it online) is one of the worst developments of the past 15 years.

When I studied nuclear engineering at West Point, the exams were open book too. Because you still have to know how to use the book and where to find tables and endless nucleotide decay patterns.
when I was a college adjunct, I made every quiz, every test, everything open book/open notes because that's how life works and I wasn't teaching nuclear engineering or gallbladder surgery.
as a college professor who has to deal with accommodations every semester: who gives a fuck. it's fine. cheesus fuck, let the kids have an extra 30 minutes on an hour long test, literally what in the world does it fucking matter.

get real problems, cheesus fuck

I have seen recent calls for an AI "cleanse" with #NoAIDecember, and I have something even better for you: #NoAIEver. It just makes everything about life worse. Let the tech oligarchs, who would purchase every last second of your attention if they could, let them rot.

indeed. never have. never will.
Said it before will say it again: never used it. Won’t use it. I will go into the woods and become mulch before I use it.
one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.

Over on Whatever today I confirm that, indeed, all those emails authors and other writers are getting promising access to readers and book clubs and such are 100% scams, share all the scam emails I got just this morning, and note why they are all awful and bad:

I guess I’ve made it as a writer: I finally received the coveted marketing scam email, wanting to share a great magazine where I have placed a few stories with their “reading club” for a nominal author participation fee!

Utterly laughable, in the saddest, most pathetic manner possible. Treating this like a shitty, gauche golf club.

You’re not the only one who did this!
Fun fact about this gif:
I had to see a therapist for a while when I was a kid in part because I thought it’d be cool to recreate this moment from THE CROW with lighter fluid on a friend’s neighbor’s driveway.

(It was cool.)
