It’s time to voice an ugly truth:
I’ve been talking recently {privately} with ecologists, with very senior figures in the environmental NGOs, with activists and lawyers. What they say - privately - is stark:
>This Govt is even worse on nature than the Sunak & Johnson Govts<.

More immigration please. I selfishly want them to give me money.
This is driven by skilled work visas other than health/care - the latter are broadly neutral (although as they say there may be other gains/contributions from health/care migration).

Yet more proof, if needed, that the priority of the likes of shady wealth-backed quislings such as Truss and Farage is to sell us and this country out.

This is obscene.

That others in politics can’t or won’t say that this is obscene hits at the heart of the problems we face.

It’s really simple…

- Cap all political donations
- Ban foreign donations
- Strict conflict‑of‑interest & anti‑corruption laws with penalties
- No titles, honours or peerages for donors
- No govt contracts for donors
- Publish every donation/lobby meeting

…that’ll do it.

1. Some good news at last. This week’s column is about the amazing thing a couple of us stumbled into three years ago, which we’ve now developed into a global research programme. It doesn’t change everything, of course, but it could help change quite a lot. + 🧵 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Reform accepted £9 million from a former Boris Johnson backer & crypto-multimillionaire.

Today, Nigel Farage postures as a righteous defender of the same democracy he actively undermines.

Democracy should never be for sale. It's time for a cap on political donations.

CCS sounds great - but it is simply the gas lobby sugar-coating their plans to build new gas plants with gobledegook. But the carbon capture promises don't add up. Fortunately, the gas companies are getting cold feet.

I must be really naive.

I rarely use Facebook but I just searched Farage. One post posed whether immigrants could bring multiple wives to UK. Lots of angry responses followed.

So I checked and found it was not so.

So I replied.

On hitting send, I found I was joining an unofficial reform group.

Wow. This explains Trump's love of Russia. It's just big business. He'll never work for a just peace.
Russia is pitching a peace-through-business plan to a Trump team envoy Witkoff, offering sanctions relief and U.S. investment in exchange for Ukraine freezing the front line and giving up NATO. A must-read really given the ongoing circumstances.
