LLM chatbots cook your brain, that's just pretty obvious at this point. They're harmful to education, to workplaces, to human creativity, to science, to the information ecology. And this is unfixable because you can't actually control what an LLM chatbot does in serious ways.

But if the idea is "oh, we need someone to make a less harmful AI company than OpenAI," that's like saying we need safer asbestos in our houses. It's the "clean coal" of LLM maltech.

I do think the argument "we could peel people who've gone down the chatGPT hole with alternatives" has something to it but only with the caveat that those alternatives can't be LLMs. LLMs *can never be harmless,* they are inherently harmful technology. They shouldn't exist.
