As I work on my syllabi for next semester, I find it really upsetting & depressing that Trump & RFK Jr destroyed so many valuable educational USAID & CDC public health resources that I used to ask my students to read (e.g. there used to be a superb USAID health policy implementation tool, now gone😔)

I was on an IRB at UW Madison for 6 years, and chair for 2. We would have run this proposal through a shredder, set fire to the detritus, mixed the ashes with concrete, and buried it in a salt mine. It's just outrageous.

The RFK Jr. version of health, where health creates health and healthy people don't get sick and the thing that keeps you healthy is /living the right way/ is very seductive to a lot of people. It also places the burden of illness back on the ill, which decreases the value of human life.

We worked for months with USAID to build an $85,000,000 project to end TB in two regions of the Philippines.

The project is funded by private money, the Philippine government, and matching USAID funds.

It could provide a blueprint for eliminating TB worldwide--except it's...not happening.

If there was a “coarsening” of society, surely it occurred when businesses were established to profit off denying people healthcare. The main joke people are making in response to Thompson’s death is merely to treat it with the bloodless bureaucratic indifference that these companies perfected.
