There is only one way to combat Facebook. Leave the platform. Not just stop using it, delete your account. Expecting them to "do better" is a farcical dream.
Hey @redmonk.com hope you saw the term chatgippty being used in the wild. I think James trademarked that :-) www.youtube.com/watch?v=Te2I...

I've always found the standard web UI to @mongodb.bsky.social Atlas frustrating and not very developer centric, so I created my own Interface with the help of Claude. You will need an API key or a service account to use it: pypi.org/project/atla.... Docs are at atlasui.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

How many USB transitions have you seen and do you still have this printer cable "just in case"?

Just starting using @simonwillison.net's shot-scraper to annotate my documentation with auto-generated screen shots via Claude. Another watershed moment for Claude development.

If the mantra of Social Media and Search was "everything is free", the mantra of AI is "everything costs"

It takes 10 minutes to create a @mongodb.bsky.social Atlas cluster. Atlas desperately needs a fast starting, single node, throwaway cluster for development. Cap the CPU and Storage its for single developers and small teams anyway and make it start fast. Happy to pay for it, but make it cheap.

The Irish Times published and lauded John Collison's op-ed, but did they fact-check it?

Andrew Jackson did. Thoroughly.

If you spent time reading the original, you'd want to give time to this counterpoint as well.

Switched from AWS to Digital Ocean for development. Easier to use and they actually spent more than 100 dollars on the user experience. Cheaper as well.

2025 and MongoDB still takes 10 minutes to provision a new Atlas Cluster?

Unfortunately, They can't do this because they intricately wedded the name of the cluster to its creation and that name is immutable. Doh!

You can have have a fast cluster, but its called A567HGF :-(

THe combination of Claude Code and Amazon Q makes deploying to AppRunner very straightforward. Especially when you just let Claude brute force your configuration until it works.

When working with Claude Code I now find I can work with two seperate projects simultaneously, prompting one while the other is doing work. Of course this burns through tokens at twice the rate.

Top tip from @simonwillison.net :

Claude Code stores full logs of your sessions in ~/.claude/projects/encoded-directory/*.jsonl on your machine.

Claude Code has a nasty default behavior of deleting these after 30 days! But we can extend this...

Here is the fix : simonwillison.net/2025/Oct/22/...

One of the great values of vibe-coding with Claude Code is you never need to recreate your context window. Claude always has it. As a result you can easily sit down and do 20-40 minutes of useful work with multi-hour breaks in between.

Scientists had hoped they had found the smallest unit of time the picosecond, but recently discovered that Dublin Corporation has found a smaller unit of time.

The time a Dublin road cycle light stays green.

Dubin Corporation when asked to comment said, "They are only cyclists for feck's sake!"

I was running Claude Code in Yolo mode (credit to @simonwillison.net for that term) until I saw it running rando shell commands. Its all containerized now.

Spent the last few days with Claude Code. I think its unlikely I will ever write another line of Python myself. The tool is astonishingly good.

Check your utility supplier. Both my Electrcity (Energia) and Gas (Bord Gais) were running credit surpluses on my account and yet continuing to bill me as opposed to burning down those surpluses.
October 8, 2025 at 12:46 PM
Claude does a create job of totalling bill listings for utilities from screenshots. Just cmd- the screen until 2024 fits in and ask Claude to total your bill for 2024. It is smart about excluding other years. Great for end of year tax filings for the self employed.
