The chances of this passing the Senate (i.e., nuking legis. filibuster for it) are slim to none, they're pushing this more for the talking points to delegitimize their midterm loss. But this isn't just very bad policy. It's utterly impractical in the sense that it'd cause total unworkable chaos.
Breaking: House passes new version of SAVE Act, worst voter suppression bill considered by Congress. Could disenfranchise:

-21 million Americans w/out access to citizenship papers
-69 mil married women who took partner’s name
-21 mil w/out valid drivers license

The GOP’s “show us your papers” bill Is the latest effort to help Trump take over elections

What does AI do well that didn’t already exist besides the csam machine on X? I’d love to be enlightened on what this tech can do to improve the lives of the average person
It's not either/or. I think the business model here is deeply deficient and there are a million problems, but I think this core idea I see a lot here "the tech sucks and is useless" is both obviously untrue and leading to some dangerous thinking that everything is going to take care of itself.

I’ve done a pretty good job of not letting the horrors get to me and send me down a mental health spiral again. But the image of a child that young going through something like this while having a four year-old at home take me to tears and fills me with incandescent rage
We have an update on the Liam Ramos family, and it isn’t good.

The family is in hiding, and Liam is waking up in the middle of the night screaming for his daddy.

Liberal voter outreach everyone. Despite being explicitly targeted by this administration they don’t make enough of a voting population to fight for. Same person tried to say Newsom wasn’t throwing trans people under the bus. They don’t care about trans rights only themselves
There aren't enough of you to be the ✨most oppressed✨

GFY
Misogyny is just so fun when you use it as a fucking cudgel against one of the most oppressed groups in our country.

I’ll fucking die before I vote for a candidate that thinks trans rights are optional, because I’m not a bigoted cunt like you

Good. "But DHS isn't just ICE, it's also..." nope, wrong. DHS no longer serves any useful functions, the whole thing has been reassigned to repression. FEMA isn't even paying out to states. All DHS does is shooting, teargassing, facial recognition, and administrative warrants. Shut it down.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Thursday that demands made by Democrats for new restrictions on federal immigration officers are “unrealistic” and warned that the Department of Homeland Security will shut down next week if they do not work with Republicans and the White House.

Okay, so a lot of quote-tweets and responses to this unambiguously good thing are of the breed of "Wow, EVEN WRESTLING FANS are against ICE now!" and "Even the world's dumbest fans figured it out!!"

Which 1) tells me you don't know anything about modern wrestling and 2) tells me you're an asshole.

Some people are asking what I want Schumer to do. He should be screaming over medical care and access to facilities. He should be going to detention facilities himself and putting his body on the line, as he did at the border in 2019. He should lean into stories about New Yorkers in detention. [1/4]

74% of Democrats support abolishing ICE, with 53% *strongly* supporting it, according to YouGov polling from last month.

Weak calls for "reform" are coming from *elected* Democrats like Chuck, not the average Democratic voter.
Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE:

End the roving patrols and racial profiling.

Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police.

Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.

...no, it got overturned because Republicans kept passing unconstitutional laws & never got held accountable for it.

I have no idea why so many people here want to blame voters for things. The voters do what they are motivated to do! Blame the people who are supposed to be motivating them!
Actually RvW got overturned because voters didn't listen to Hillary when she warned them what would happen if Trump won.

the demands schumer laid out, in light of existing rules and current ICE practices, are not a serious effort at modifying ICE’s behavior in any meaningful sense. they’re an attempt to mollify the base with meaningless bullshit without actually changing anything so they can move on to affordability

I think this interview gives the game away about Dems and their position on ICE/DHS. They’re still giving into fascist framing of an immigration problem. Nothing will fundamentally change, (and they don’t want it to!) they just want people to stop yelling about it and for it to be done quieter
"I'm gonna give Homan the benefit of the doubt"

"They should coordinate with local law enforcement, pick these people up in the middle of the night when they're not suspecting it"

Walz is capitulating to fascists and encouraging night raids. Genuinely disgusting. Why would anyone settle for this?

Literally twelve days ago Gavin Newsom apologized to Ben Shapiro for saying that ICE was "state-sponsored terrorism" and now he's calling Bovino a Nazi? He's a power-hungry psychopath who doesn't actually believe in anything.
