Most of the things we believe we're doing for pleasure, we are in fact doing because we are addicted to them. TikTok isn't fun, it rewires your brain. Scrolling isn't fun. So few things that you routinely do are actually pleasurable, and this becomes very clear when you spend time with great art.
Seeing some discussion of the value of reading, which is an excuse to advance my belief:
Reading is worth doing because it is deeply pleasurable. We think this isn't a good enough reason because of our puritan streak, and because we think we do things for pleasure constantly but we really don't!

If you had it you wouldn't harm & you'd do your best to mitigate suffering. People either don't know what words mean or think there's some other way we get a better world than caring about people. Sorry there's not a shortcut around that.
Don't listen to anyone telling you we don't need empathy. I can't remember which billionaire was trying to tell us empathy is overrated. Do you know the meaning? Being able to get how someone else feels. It can't be applied wrong. If you had it towards someone you couldn't be bigoted against them.
