I’ve been waffling on this for weeks, but it’s time.

Humans are by nature creative, social, and active. We make art, we share art, we appreciate it.
Unfortunately we’ve commodified it to the point of every hobby needing to be monetized, marketed, optimized.

I had a dream I was working with a piece of vector art of a guy with three tentacles, trying to use a vector fill tool to add more tentacles, and it kept adding them in a very symmetrical and un-dynamic way and I kept reverting and tweaking the settings and trying again. But I couldn't...

Freelancer here: from the internets perspective, I’m a successful full time designer! You can’t tell from my portfolio (NDAs) or from how I talk about contracts how much work I get.
I AM a professional artist, but I do a VERY small amount of work each year. My husband supports us and I’m a SAHM!

We can fight this by not making our safety nets invisible.
Here's mine: it's impossible for me to afford to live on what this Press makes, even though it's my full time job.
My wife works full time and gets our healthcare.
My mother invested $20,000 over 3 years to get the Press off the ground.

Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.

I had been using Adobe portfolio, which was EXTREMELY basic but free. Now it’s not free, and it’s certainly not worth paying for. So I need to create a whole portfolio site. 😮💨
