We can end extreme poverty in this generation.

We can end people scratching in the dirt, desperately hoping that something will grow, so they can feed their children.

A strong record on human rights is something we should be proud of. Strong borders and staying in the ECHR is possible

This is such a great thread from my friend, Ruth. Do read.
This week is Road Safety Week & a chance to talk about Barbara Castle!

Barbara was Transport Minister for three years yet she was able to introduce the Breathalyzer, a proper integrated transport strategy & more!

This was done despite fierce opposition.

Motorbike theft is a huge scourge in our area.

Great to hear that our new, strengthened governance will support the police in tackling this crime.

Our voter coalition is fracturing. But we *can* win them back.

Read this 🧵 and article to find out how

1) We've lost half our vote - 20% to Green/Lib Dem, 20% to Don't Know, and 10% to Reform

We need to get *all* these voters back. And we can.

We have lost around half of the voters who supported us last July. Voters are leaving us because…

Are you reading about bond rates again but don’t really get what’s going on?

Feeling Gilt-y about Gilts?

Then read this post to find out why bond rates move: jeevunsandher.substack.com/p/bond-rates...

Energy from North Sea oil and gas will only last 5 years. We must invest in clean energy to get bills down for good

🌊 Good News: The canal has been lowered in Loughborough 🌊

This was agreed at my flooding roundtable and it is brilliant to see this in action so quickly.

Thank you to CRT and the EA for collaborating on this.

However, water levels are still rising – we need to prepare in case floods do come.

We have a duty to future generations. We must rise to this moment and prevent climate disaster.

A climate change consensus used to exist in Britain. It is a shame how much the Conservative Party has changed.

Gilt rate up slightly this morning. Still lower than Tuesday morning.

Today, we pause to remember all those who have died in service of our country and express thanks for all our brave personnel who still serve.

I remember, in particular, all those from Loughborough, Shepshed, and the Villages who have served.

We will never forget their sacrifice and service.

Significant fall in gilt rate this morning.

They fell of today's labour market stats. Markets think it more likely MPC will cut rates at next meeting.

Again, no changes in fiscal policy this morning.

Creating good jobs in *every* part of the country is how we get PIP/ESA claims down 👇

I was honoured to lay a wreath at Loughborough this morning as well as Shepshed in the afternoon.

Thank you to members of my team who laid wreaths in Barrow, Quorn, Wymeswold and Mountsorrel where I could not attend.

We will remember them.

We honour all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Those who served and protected our nation.

We will remember them.

Britain is becoming more and more divided.

Some of us can afford a decent life, a lot of us can't. We see different worlds through our screens. The places we live in look and feel increasingly different.

Our task is to help unite this nation again.

Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

The bond rate fell substantially today as 4 MPC members voted to cut.

Nothing to do with fiscal position. All to do with Bank of England.

Reminder: The UK government bond rate = demand for investment + expected inflation + political risk*

*(usually 0, sometimes you get Truss).

We see the growing destitution.

We want everyone to be able to live a decent life.

The lesson from last night's results:

Win on affordability, and you win the election
Voters in New Jersey and Virginia who said the economy was their number 1 issue voted 63-35 for Democrats last night.

That’s a sharp reversal from 2024, when Trump won economy voters by 60 points
