Great to see two child limit scrapped. It will lift hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty.

But it’s important to recognise most voters support the two child limit.

So we need to continue to make the case for a decent and humane social security system #Budget2026

Freezing tax thresholds is the right decision.

It raises a significant amount, it is progressive, and it doesn’t break Labour’s manifesto.

Great to hear the Chancellor commit to making apprenticeships free for SMEs.

Our recent @thefabians.bsky.social report found apprenticeships at SMEs had fallen by half since the levy was introduced, accounting for 97% of the total decline #Budget2026

Great to hear from Mark Drakeford at our @thefabians.bsky.social event in Cardiff 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Ahead of the Welsh Elections next year, he argues Welsh Labour needs to:

✅ Reassert Labour as a devolutionist party
✅ Position ourselves in a radical Labour tradition
✅ Re-build our electoral coalition

The chancellor faces some challenging choices at the autumn budget.

But there are options that can raise the revenue we need without breaking manifesto commitments.

Good to see the Mayfield Review launched.

The rise in health-related inactivity is bad for workers, employers, and public finances.

If we want to address this rise, we need to keep people well in work. That will require stronger incentives & better support for employers.

Strong results in New Jersey and Virginia, and an outstanding performance by Mamdani in New York.

Signs of hope for the Democrats.

We’ll be exploring the lessons for progressives in the next edition of Fabian Review out next month.

The Chancellor has today indicated taxes will rise at the budget.

She reaffirmed her fiscal rules. But OBR’s downgrade to productivity will create a big fiscal gap.

She has said - rightly - said that there will be no return to austerity.

So that means taxes will need to go up.
