This is my favourite game. Every part of it sucks, but each part sucks in a way that GESTURES TOWARD something that would be awesome were it not undermined by every other part. It can't be improved because everything that's terrible about its load-bearing. Did I mention it's the best game ever made?

I feel a lot of people's hate for roguelikes come from only playing modern interpretations that have little to offer besides victory / defeat.
Even Hades relies on narrative & meta progression to make "bad RNG" tolerable. Meanwhile, it's legit fun to die in weird ways in Caves of Cud, ToME4 or DCSS

I spent like 3 hours on The Old Town boss level in #Cultic ep. 2 on Extreme. I think it came down to RNG and not my skill.

Anvil of Dawn (1995) is one of those games that make me mourn all the talent & know-how we lost in the shift from pixel art to 3D.
Dreamforge Intertainment was a powerhouse. We have so many retro-inspired games now, I really hope someday we get a dungeon-crawler in this style again.
