Cost $29 to ride the rail from Oakland to Sacramento to see my vagabond #athletics. Rode the train from Montreal to Toronto earlier this year. The Seattle to Vancouver train is like a trip to the zoo with all the cool wildlife. They sell booze! Ride the train!
Train seating regular Amtrak is always so much more comfortable and easy breezy compared to flying. We need more cities with more service. And we need cheap fares you don’t need to book ages in advance.

One week on @theurbanist.org:
-Two original Sound Transit stories
-Two fully reported Seattle budget stories
-Dispatches from both Clyde Hill & Kirkland
-One story about Katie Wilson's transition team
And a book review!

I know I'm biased, but I really think we punch above our weight.

I'm so excited for The Urbanist to roll into 2026 at full strength, covering new admins at the city and county and major stories elsewhere, including at Sound Transit.

I hope you'll consider joining us at our holiday party to support that work. It's also fun!

Homes, trees, parking — pick 2

After much deliberation and a grueling interview process, I’m pleased to announce that I’ve accepted a new job and will not need any financial support from my parents to cover the high costs of childcare going forward. #AmericanDream #ThisIsYourCity

Confirmed: Katie Wilson will be mayor of Seattle, ousting the incumbent from his left.

And Erika Evans will be the new city attorney, ousting the GOP city attorney after promising to take the office in a more progressive direction.

What do progressives' win mean for law enforcement? NEW IN BOLTS:
Progressives Win in Seattle, Changing Directions on Public Safety - Bolts
Voters ousted a mayor who oversaw a surge in encampment sweeps, and a Republican prosecutor who pursued punitive policies toward homeless people and drug users.

Fun fact, local sex pest dave meinert (owner of huckleberry square and mecca and 5 point) joined Burien’s lawsuit to overturn the voter passed minimum wage increase.

His lawyer’s argument was “it’s not like we don’t want to pay our employees”

meinert recently settled a wage theft lawsuit 🤔
And don’t forget the role restaurant owners play in trying to suppress the minimum wage
If you didn’t know, Seattle restaurant owners and consultants have been fighting against street food and food truck reforms for decades.

Our regulatory environment is why until now, Seattle has not really developed a street food culture like Portland (or many other cities).

Tanya Woo winning more votes than all but four people in Seattle history and losing by 17 points certainly tells you something about having a race during a presidential year
The Rinck, Evans, and Foster campaigns are now officially ranked 2nd, 9th, and 13th, respectively, in total votes received in general elections in Seattle going back to 1973. AMR now holds the top two spots. And counting is far from done.

Check your ballot. It’s possible that it’s been challenged due to leaving the ballot envelope unsigned or a signature mismatch. You can cure that with King County Elections so your ballot is counted! kingcounty.gov/en/dept/elec...

My ballot was challenged and it only took me two minutes to correct. Please, check your ballot status!
We’re on the right track! Make sure you track your ballot to confirm it is accepted, NOT challenged. Check our links in bio to do so! More votes will be counted on Monday!

I’m going to put in an inquiry on this. I have a lot of questions about how enforcement is currently being conducted.
