Reviews.

Reviews are free AND they are a gift to authors that can keep on giving (i.e., exposure, marketing, algo boosts, etc.)

Please, give the gift of reviews to your authors this holiday season. It really can make a difference!

Delighted that Descanso, my "fiercely original satiric novel," has been selected as an Editor's Pick by BookLife, the indie review section of Publishers Weekly. The review will appear in the January 2026 issue of PW, in plenty of time for next Christmas. 🤣

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 555:
Don't use descriptions of weather as backdrop or set dressing. Write how it affects the way your characters interact with their world: how it changes their clothes, their behaviour, their mood, their perception of sounds, colours, light. Make it count.

There's been a great deal of debate about how safe Dublin city centre is, but when we @dublininquirer.com looked for data to resolve this, we couldn't find much useful – so we commissioned a survey to try to add some facts/data to the debate.
