Wow, Bari Weiss is going to be SO mad when she finds out about this. I know how deeply and earnestly she cares about Free Speech on Campus!
This is truly awful. I have served in the university media board for 3 years and saw how brilliant and committed the student editors of these magazines were to quality and integrity. This is such a loss for the university community at large. www.nytimes.com/2025/12/02/u...

Russia failed to conquer Ukraine. So Trump is handing Putin what he couldn’t win on the battlefield. Territory. Limits on Ukraine’s military. And $300B in assets. Shameful. Dangerous. Unacceptable.

I’m sure the self-proclaimed ‘most transparent White House in history’ won’t mind a thorough investigation into the second strike.

How can we sit and watch Trump’s son in law and that US estate agent carve up Ukraine opposite a grinning Putin. This is Trump corruption.
Ukraine urgently needs funds and weapons, military support and a clear indication that the West means business

This is the roughly the ratio of the foreign-born population which existed for half a century from the late 19th to the early 20th century.

/note that this chart is from 2019, the percent of the population which is foreign-born is now somewhat above 15%, which is a new high.

honestly the most hurtful part of this announcement was the repeated supposed commitment to respecting everyone’s ‘dignity’ while announcing the closure of a campus on said campus in the middle of a teaching day
It's official: 400 redundancies and a campus closure. At-risk staff will get a letter next week. Absolutely no serious consideration of any of the union's counterproposals.

Blue Labour fills me with more disgust every single day. What is the point of elections in this country if we change government, but just get more of the same?! We need radical change to our electoral system, and our politics.
Loose financial regulations gave us the 2008 financial crash in which extreme free markets collapsed and had to be bailed out by governments acquiring more debt than they did under Covid. So what idiot would loosen regulations and risk a repeat?

it's so wild that in 2017 people like this used to say shit like "sorry i have a real job i haven't seen the latest tweets" like it wasn't the president they were defending posting them, and now they're doing the same bit about reporting that alleges blatant war crimes
RAJU: If defenseless survivors were killed, would that constitute a violation of the laws of war?

MIKE JOHNSON: I'm not going to prejudge any of that. I was pretty busy yesterday. I didn't follow a lot of the news.

Unfortunately the HE 2025 ballot failed at 39% turnout. I have written about why and about what desperately needs to change in UCU's national structures off the back of this result. Some HEC members need to chi up and understand their role in all this, and how disconnected they are from members.
The HE Ballot failed, now what?
If you’re reading this it is because today the UCU’s 2025 national ballot over pay and conditions in universities has failed. The last time…
