centrists like to use terminology disputes as a proxy battle for actual policy fights, and engaging is often fruitless. if you don’t like the slogan use something else. but the agency needs to be hollowed out, every existing agent needs to be put on no-hire lists, and there need to be prosecutions.

Airbnb’s lobbyist here is the Congressman’s son, and the documents show he supplied draft bill language and had months of privileged access. That relationship — not policy — explains why we are the only major county to opt out. The Legislature cannot simply “opt in later.” Our attorneys work for the County Executive, not the Legislature. Under Bello’s interpretation of the Charter, we cannot direct him to act. He controls the legal drafting, the timeline, and the outcome — and legislators fear retaliation for crossing him. The administration went full Trump: deny the evidence, attack the messenger. Instead of refuting their own emails showing Airbnb’s involvement, they smeared me as vengeful and fictionalized the facts. They also pushed a false claim about revenue loss. Local media largely failed to inform the public. Most outlets refused to center the Morelle connection, softened documented facts into “claims,” repeated the administration’s untruths without challenge and covered the issue when it was too late to engage the public.

Just saying. So, Ms. Rachel, you quote Leviticus 19, love your neighbor as yourself. The chapter before affirms God's perfect law when it comes to sexual matters. Now, so how do you best love somebody? You love them by telling them the truth. Don't be cruel […] I would love for Ms. Rachel to respond to this: Is pride a Christian value? She thinks it is. How Seattle created a bizarre situation where government-subsidized housing costs more than market-rate housing, 11% of it sitting empty and providers can't lower rents.

Through 2018, vacancy levels hovered around 2% in Seattle’s publicly funded housing for people making no more than 60% of the area median income — $66,000 at most. Local housing officials cranked out these apartments, nearly doubling the number over the past 10 years. More than two-thirds of them were studios or one-bedrooms. And most, including all of the Thai Binh apartments, were built for people at the high end of that income range, earning well above minimum wage. A decade ago, affordable-housing operators were restricted from charging more than $1,008 for a one-bedroom. Now, at the Rise on Madison on First Hill, one-bedrooms are listed at $1,635. Their main option is to lower rents as much as they can. But if they lower them too much, they won’t meet their loan payments.

People’s brains are fried by the 15 stories a year of a cyclist hitting a pedestrian but completely ignore the 40k per year that are killed by cars.

News is news because it’s different from the norm. But the process of reporting tricks our lizard brains into thinking what’s in the news is common.
