Another ICE "assault" case unravels. Border Patrol and ICE are arresting US citizens and then after they find out that they are US citizens, they are charging them with "assault" to justify their actions. This is clearly DHS policy at this point. We've seen it repeatedly now.

Folks in LA please be careful and refer to this guide for protest gear from Hong Kong’s 2018 anti-extradition protest, in case you need some helpful, well-tested gear suggestions against heavily armed police that are liberal with tear gas.

Greetings! A large immigration operation and subsequent protest in Paramount, CA has led to a large amount of gas and “less lethal” munitions. Situation ongoing. Will update as I can.

ICE vans ran through a crowd of anti-ICE protesters in Paramount, CA, at least two with extreme injuries, per @acatwithnews.bsky.social

A major fire is burning in the middle of the street, per Sean.
A large contingent of federal vehicles letft, pursued by protesters. One protester appears to have been hit by the vehicle, and was unconscious.pp

Hearing from clergy friends that the tear gas is bad. Lots of messages with this pieces from this thread in the last 24 hours 👇
Still LA, ICE is gathered again to start another operation after tear gassing civilians for hours at Paramount. A massive ICE presence stands across the street from civilians. This is live right now.

I’m also seeing video on here of ICE going ham in an LA Home Depot parking lot, just a few days after it was reported that Stephen Miller was yelling at DHS/ICE officials to target Home Depot for migrants to sweep up.
Pretty clearly setting the stage to use the Insurrection Act to crack down on domestic protests within the US.

People disappearing and silencing students are moves of an authoritarian regime.
An international graduate student at Tufts University was taken into federal custody on Tuesday outside an off-campus apartment building, the university’s president said. The university was told that the student’s visa had been terminated. nyti.ms/4hRzPq1

I feel the same horror I felt watching an authoritarian regime crush democracy in Hong Kong in 2019 as I do now, except with more sadness about the reality that our unserious nation chose this. kwokpuilan.substack.com/p/cultural-r...
Cultural Revolution: Mao vs Trump
Mao Zedong might be laughing or turning in his grave, depending on how you looked when he saw President Donald Trump taking a page from his playbook for the Chinese Cultural Revolution (1966-1976).

Neoliberalism – the ideology at the root of all our problems
Financial meltdown, environmental disaster and even the rise of Donald Trump – neoliberalism has played its part in them all. Why has the left failed to come up with an alternative?
