my latest: i spent weeks investigating how frustrations about data centers were about to swallow american politics…

…and then the 2025 election happened, proving the electoral impacts are already here.

read and share my deep dive on the bipartisan AI techlash shaping our elections before our eyes!
The Data Center Backlash Is Swallowing American Politics
Activists on both the left and the right are pushing back against rampant AI development.

While I'm on one, it would be easier to depose Schumer (though still hard) as minority. But the Congressional Black Caucus would raise holy hell if a bunch of white progressives and moderates tried to depose the potential first Black Speaker of the House. The CBC is the nerve center in the House.

A bit of a contrarian view. Democrats likely won't pay a price for this in the midterms. The American memory is quite short on political machinations. But Republicans are about to learn a central tenet of American politics: You cannot give people a benefit and then take it away.

Ahead of midterms, climate policy has become a wedge issue splitting Democrats. After last week's electoral victories, some Democrats will only talk about expanding clean energy through lens of affordability. Others believe talking about climate change will win voters. www.eenews.net/articles/ret...
Retreat or recast? Democrats debate future of climate politics.
Democratic election wins last week reignited arguments on how — or if — candidates should discuss climate change on the campaign trail.

Appreciate the nuance *and* wish that water quality was more of a consideration with data centers. It’s not just about supply, in part because quality impacts supply and because treating for water quality both before and after use in these operations takes energy.
new from me today: not all data centers are created environmentally equal — and building them in states with cleaner grids and more access to water could go a long way in preventing environmental catastrophe
If the US Has to Build Data Centers, Here’s Where They Should Go
A new analysis tries to calculate the coming environmental footprint of AI in the US and finds that the ideal sites for data centers aren’t where they’re being built.

It seems anything AI or Data Center related gets the attention of low effort rage posters. I've seen people reply to useful applications of LLM "AI" technology act as if you posted snuff content on their timeline.

you can't just bring back austin powers. the franchise wrote itself into a corner after he volunteered to stay behind forever in the shagadelic dimension to save foxxy and vanessa. they already brought him back once without explaining how he escaped from fembot island, the audience won't buy it

i'm surprised more companies aren't looking at maine for their data centers. it's the saudi arabia of water.

average bluesky replier after consuming tens of gigabytes of youtube/netflix/etc in a single day, all served from datacenters and routed through datacenters: "these datacenters are bullshit, we don't need them, they're just AI"

on today’s episode of “bluesky is unhinged and not real life”

a writer for wired is being attacked here for *checks notes* writing about how it’s better if data centers are powered by renewable energy and not located in drought areas

🤷🏻‍♀️

as i wrote for @rollingstone.com a year ago

trans care hyde amdt in funding fight would require the kind of senate dem cave we just watched

however

it’s not in the senate bill

so would require many other things to happen in order to even gleam its likelihood

anything more is ~speculation~
November 11, 2025 at 3:30 AM
on the hhs appropriations trans care hyde amdt stuff
Just to be clear but this is not the bill that passed tonight. This is a separate bill. And this language likely will be stripped from the bill that goes to conference between the House and Senate

a politically palatable climate policy will never include taking your cheeseburgers
i'm convinced if we ever tried to touch the rail of meat politics in America (something that's going to eventually need to happen in order to reduce CO2 emissions), it would lead to a huge right-wing shock
remembering the time a random catholic priest got mad at me about a hypothetical about the government restricting meat production on the other site

meat politics is going to be insane for the next Dem administration which takes climate change seriously, imo
November 11, 2025 at 3:15 AM
this sh*t is insane
Nothing illustrates the arseholery of the IOC and the British Press more than the use of the image of a not-Trans woman to illustrate a story about trans women being banned (because there are no current trans women competing at this level)
