I thought I lost it, but my copy of the Welcome To The NHK novel by Tatsuhiko Takimoto has been found intact. One of my primary literary influences and tragically out of print - another case of me building a LEGO man out of an author and Japanese people in a stream recognising him right away.

There's a scene in Waiting for Guffman where Catherine O'Hara's character explains what she thinks "less is more" acting is, and it's completely insane and never explained or referenced again in the movie. I think it's so brilliant and funny. Rest in peace to a comedic genius.
