Wētā are native insects of NZ. They are giant flightless crickets. This is one I disturbed collecting in apples. Wētā are preyed on by introduced pests - rats cats hedgehogs and some are now critically endangered. They live in holes in our apple trees where rot has set in. #weta #apples #orchard

Went birding again! And took my family with me. No Tītitipounamu this time, but I did get my first photo of a Hihi!
