A mishmash: Middle East stuff, development stuff, organizational dysfunction, crisis response, carbon transition dynamics, silly sports things. Mostly here to read smarter people than me.
Clearly this idiot didn't see the ol' "bounce a backwards two point conversion pass off the other team's helmet and pick it up off the ground in the end zone" coming smdh
I am struggling to see what Seattle's path to victory in the rematch against the Rams on Thursday would look like. Mostly because I have zero faith in the Seahawks' offense.

Please roast me if I am wrong

I had no idea exports were such a big part of their business and yeah, they're *screwed* screwed. Go anywhere in Latin America these days and like half the new cars are BYDs and Geelys

Gonna stab the bad guys with the flag like Mel Gibson in The Patriot
One thing that drives me insane is people who think that their personal firearm is gonna be a service rifle that wins a civil war like it's 1775 which like... no
I find “civil war” discourse a little funny.

No one is going to be rocking AR15s by year 8 of the thing.

The final battle for Washington will be fought by the Cali forces rocking a mix of Type 89s, K2s, C7s, supporting by base M1 Abrams reactivated by Korean techs at SIAD and Toyotas in BDUs.

AI watch: my 5th grader is doing a school report on armor for batters (batting helmets, elbow guards etc.) and he's been asked how he would use AI. He says he won't because he asked AI what the armor is for and it told him the armor protects batters from being hit in the knee with a strawberry.

"In a brief order, the conservative majority argued... that the District Court had intervened to block the maps too close to next year’s midterm election"

They play this card a lot but they're all over the place as to when it is or isn't too close. Is there a clear deadline or is it vibes?

Oh no, there goes all of our cocaine!
i'm actually skeptical that the cartel is going to send another boat to retrieve/continue the run of a small vessel that is being surveilled by the US military and already attacked once.

Supposedly, AI increases productivity.

Put yourself in the shoes of a CEO. You need your employee to write an email. He uses ChatGPT. Now you have an email (probably full of mistakes), but also your perfectly capable employee is turning into a dumbass. Where's the productivity increase?
“When participants used ChatGPT to draft essays, brain scans revealed a 47% drop in neural connectivity across regions associated with memory, language, & critical reasoning.

Their brains worked less, but they felt just as engaged—a kind of metacognitive mirage.”🧪

Compromise: $10k Chinese electric cars like the rest of the world gets to buy, then add wood paneling
Sean Duffy on slashing fuel economy standards: "This rule will actually allow you to bring back the 1970s station wagon. Maybe a little wood paneling on the side. We can bring back choice to consumers."

IDF troops have gone out of their way to record themselves laughing while they commit atrocities, setting the videos to dance music, and putting them on TikTok for everyone to see
The TikToks that made me really really start to hate Israel and Israelis weren’t pro Palestine propaganda…it was the shit posted by Israelis themselves in which they boast openly about their war crimes. Are those fake too Hillary?
I swear these people have no idea how stupid Israelis make them look.

If I ran a cartel and was looking to launder money, I can’t think of a better investment than “condos funded via untraceable transactions and managed by gullible nerds with zero common sense and more money than God and a good friend in the White House who has taken our money in the past” 28/31

For comparison, the Empire State Building has an estimated worth of $1.7B so apparently Prospera’s shitty condo is worth more than six Empire State Buildings 25/31

A Wall Street analyst valued the Empire State Building observatory at $1.7 billion.

BTW here is a Google Maps satellite photo of Prospera from this year, and a picture of the only building of any size in Prospera. The argument is that this isolated shitty condo is somehow worth $11B. 24/31

What’s really disheartening is that the Prospera goons started complaining right away and Biden’s people were leaning on the Honduran government to give them what they want. Trump’s definitely worse but this kind of attitude towards Latin America is fairly bipartisan 22/31

You have cartels looking to launder their money via crypto and real estate, and Trump doing a Clay Davis and wanting to be a player in all these various scams, and Juan Orlando Hernandez making it all happen. Good times for everyone involved 16/31

Trump knows all about cartels laundering money via real estate, of course, because he was getting cartel money in his Panama development. Plus he was selling condos to various crooks from Russia and everywhere else. He was fine with whoever paid him. 13/31

Prospera is in Honduras because in 2009 a coup installed a far right, reactionary, brutal government which stripped the country for parts. They set up what are called ZEDE zones which were places where businesses could just do what they want. Prospera is one of these. 5/31

Good thread connecting Trump to the Sinaloa cartel, although I suspect the Hernandez pardon is more likely a Peter Thiel joint than a Sinaloa joint. Trump almost certainly has Sinaloa cash in his accounts though 1/31🧵

I got to thinking: "What if it's not about the contradiction between the Hernandez pardon and the air strikes, but about the consistency between them?"

As President of Honduras, he used the power of the government to go after certain cartels—primarily the rivals of the Sinaloa Cartel, with whom he

Even leaving aside murder we can ruin anything. One of my more eye-opening realizations was that individual Buddhist monks in Nepal could be a bunch of petty bitches gossiping behind each other's backs about who's chanting wrong or who's using the wrong incense. It's just how we roll, I guess

This is madness. During the pandemic up to today, nursing shortages led to bed shortages led to people dying in the ER. It's one of the largest barriers to getting care.

(Also this is definitely RFK flavored, given that chiropractors and osteopaths are still classified as professionals)
The Trump admin now says nursing isn't a professional degree.

The admin plan to redefine what constitutes a professional degree to exclude nursing and limit access to student loans — outraging national health care groups and leaving nursing students questioning how they'll pay for graduate degrees.

Good piece by @joshtpm.bsky.social on AI being hated by everyone. One thing missing: it's pretty clear that when the bubble they've created bursts and takes the economy down with it, the AI investors will demand a 2008-style bailout, and they'll get it.
