Yup, it's true. The super flashy ten episode format robs modern Star Trek of the atmospheric slowness that the classics have.
The other thing is how many more weeks in a given year contained a premier (or two!) of a new episode.
I still love it, I just want it to be even more granular and stretched.

The first episodes of Starfleet Academy are OK, certainly better than Encounter at Farpoint. And I think you could have a good ST series with this premise. Problem is they won't get a chance- ten episodes or less per season just doesn't give you the time to make proper Trek.
