Lo and behold, the chart against which so many political strategists and idealisms fall flat.

US, and Trump data. But I can't help to wonder how prevalent is this in many other countries.

Do we see them as materialistic and nearsighted? Do they see us as political junkies? Never mind.

4) Senate Dems did get something out of the negotiations w/r/t power of the purse. They protected the legislative branch, notably GAO. But it's something they already had that was under threat, not something they won. Same is true with the RIFs. Same is true with SNAP.

3. Republicans were playing good cop, bad cop, crazy cop.

Good cop: Senate Republicans
Bad cop: House Republicans (Johnson)
Crazy cop: Russ Vought + Trump

Vought's plan was always to use impoundment/rescissions/starving people + firing feds to force Dems to surrender on the power of the purse.

This, from @americalabs.org (one of the smartest people abt leg procedure), counters what a lot of people are claiming about this cave. But the follow-on adds to what I noted abt setting up opportunities in January.
5) Dems showed (a) it's possible to get something out of "shutting down the government" despite what the pundits said, and (b) that they could hold together for 40 days. It's not a policy win, but it changes expectations for what they can do in the future, strengthening their negotiating position.

If Jackson or the full court hasn’t acted by then, the order that full payments be made goes back into effect.

But, there could be a further administrative stay (by Jackson or the full court) while they decide whether to grant a stay pending appeal.

And, the Senate deal could also moot the case.

Where are we at?

The order that USDA pay out full SNAP benefits for November is still on hold, but the appeals court denied DOJ’s request for a more extended stay.

As such, that triggers the 48-hour clock Justice Jackson set, at the end of which her administrative stay ends.

The pardons are primarily symbolic: No one on the list has been charged with federal crimes, and Trump can't pardon those facing state charges in GA, AZ, NV and WI.

But it's another effort by Trump to recast the history of his bid to seize a second term in 2020. www.politico.com/news/2025/11...

MORE: The pardon language is extremely broad and could apply to many others too, since it covers anyone who advocates for the false elector slates or who investigated 2020 election fraud.

One person the pardon explicitly excludes: Trump himself.

But what he can do is bring bogus federal charges against any state official who dares prosecute them.
Trump’s pardon attorney Ed Martin claims Trump is pardoning his Georgia co-defendants and other “alternate electors.”

Note: Trump’s Georgia co-defendants are charged under state law. The president can’t pardon people for state crimes.
