Trump is cutting the funding to all NOAA projects and subagencies across the board — except to the National Weather Service. But we cannot understand the weather without understanding the ocean: where do you think the water in the atmosphere came from anyway?! #oceanliteracy #morelikeoceanilliteracy
Trump's Budget is out. For NOAA, it's exactly what the previous passback document showed.
Trump administration eliminations NOAA's Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research in its ongoing fight against science and reality.

A very insightful piece of writing about the UK Supreme Court's decision.

Either way the court ruled would pose a problem for intersex and trans individuals. I appreciated Jennie's point about the inherent flaws of the original Equality Act and how it should be amended to account for 'what ifs'
Here's my analysis of yesterday's Supreme Court judgement on the interpretation of the Equality Act, digging into the detail of what the judges missed and why the whole matter is more complicated than it might at first appear to be. bylines.scot/society/are-... 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈👩‍⚖️

What do #ChappellRoan and the Madden-Julian Oscillation have in common? Both have undeniable influence in their respective fields. 🦄 But what does this have to do with ocean dynamics and climate models? Read this week's #InCirculation to find out! 🌊 open.substack.com/pub/incircul...

A list of things I’m excited about:

1) investments in ocean conservation projects 🌊
2) writing ocean-centric poetry 👩🏼‍💻
3) finding the intersections between #scicomm, policy and pop culture 📈
4) spreadsheets 🤓
5) PhD funding applications 💸

Good day to remember that DOGE has already lost the US government at least half a trillion dollars this year alone. And likely more.

We ( @drcatmac.bsky.social and I) are writing a marine conservation science and policy textbook!

We'd love to include case studies of ocean conservation success stories, and we welcome submissions of ideas here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Please be clear and detailed!

As an incoming literature PhD student, I can tell you it’s not just science grads who are going abroad!

There is a strange lack of Democratic resistance to measures that will destroy our country’s environmental policies. It’s demoralizing to those of us who want to see a greener/bluer future. 💔
@scrippsocean.bsky.social's research helps protect our national security, economy, and human health and fight the climate crisis. But now, NIH and NSF grants have been cut off. Grad students are applying for jobs abroad. We are losing the future of science and innovation.

With the decline of Yiddish came the rise of Modern Hebrew — but sadly nowadays you’d be hard pressed to find someone outside of NYC who knows more than a word or two.
The Yiddish novel “Sons and Daughters” documents the problems of Jewish identity and destiny in the early 1930s. Today, of course, the problems take very different forms. This distance gives the book “a meditative quality,” Adam Kirsch writes.
The Resurrection of a Lost Yiddish Novel
At the end of the twentieth century, Chaim Grade preserved the memory of a Jewish tradition besieged by the forces of modernity.
