Pre-alpha public release of Kitten Space Agency!!!

I played a bit of KSP and was disappointed by KSP 2.

KSA is looking GREAT after very little time, and the devs seem to have their hearts in absolutely the right place — I’ll be making a contribution to support them!

Met the on-call intern and fellow tonight.

Was asked “Are you the one who went into SVT while working and got an EKG of yourself?”

Why, yes, that would be me (20+ years ago as a peds resident). Caught the break and finished the overnight shift too.

I guess it’s good to be known for… something…?

Took a night owl cross-country flight back home. There was a rather cranky toddler across the aisle.

I no longer have any guilt whatsoever at splurging on noise-canceling ear buds.

I believe in peer review…

…but, not in peer review limited to gate-keeping for acceptance for publication in academic journals for profit.

AI tells you what you want to hear, statisticians usually tell you what you don't want to hear
The advances we've made in statistics, experimental study design, and causal inference over the past century are remarkably useful for understanding our world. But there is never been a push to make people use them like we are seeing with generative AI. Perhaps take a moment to consider why.

Picked up Mythos by Stephen Fry in a #LittleFreeLibrary and it’s been a fun read — a slightly irreverent take on Greek mythology.

Got thinking about giving back and after freecycle hunting, wife has found a free broken wine fridge (w/glass door) we’re planning to convert into a LFL.

Fun project!

The difficulty with evidence-based medicine is that you must value truth over wishful thinking.

This generally does not make you popular.

(Good thing my job is to take care of babies, not being popular.)

Artists Thibaut Garcia and Antoine Morinière

It’s a really excellent arrangement of the Goldberg Variations. I’d recommend listening with headphones / earbuds as the 2 guitars are nicely separated and give a spatial feel to the counterpoint.

TIL in the NICU that "Build-A-Bear Workshop" costumes are well-sized for a lot of our newborns.

Missed opportunity for baby doing well after therapeutic hypothermia -- should have had an Elsa costume -- "The cold never bothered me anyway..."

Helped teach an intro to physical computing class at a local makerspace using the Circuit Playground tonight.

The best part was when the initially slightly bored middle schooler got into tinkering and exploring, ending with a “WOW! That’s so cool!” as he showed off his creation.

Gives me hope.

Ok I think I’m just dumb.

How do you get the #medsky labeler to recognize you as working in particular field(s), and in which posts will it show up?

I saw a thread with an endless scroll of possibilities but even that one seemed incomplete — saw pediatrics, but not neonatal-perinatal

Sad but grateful today. Told CFI that I'd be stopping flight training. Just under 100 hours total time, 33 hours solo, just needed school stage check + FAA checkride.

I'm grateful that I fulfilled a childhood dream of FLYING, but this is enough.

I'm going to miss the sky.
