Pre-alpha public release of Kitten Space Agency!!!

I played a bit of KSP and was disappointed by KSP 2.

KSA is looking GREAT after very little time, and the devs seem to have their hearts in absolutely the right place — I’ll be making a contribution to support them!

First time I’ve seen this, and even through light pollution of suburban Massachusetts

Well, at least it’s better than very similar graphics, but where the cogs are closer together and therefore completely locked up and unable to turn.

Like this one. My question is whether it’s actually meant as an accurate representation of their school system…?

The reason I provided to them was: "There are consequences to Disney being unwilling to do what is right."

I might not like using AI to replace thinking.

But maybe I can forgive a little, because thanks to ChatGPT, I have this gem.

Boys with Noonan Syndrome at the 97%ile for BMI will collapse into a singularity at ~17.5 years age. It's very sad.

In other news, learned in 2 days how to use #Rlang #quarto-preprint with #typst to submit a report on corrected LMS growth curve parameters to #MedRxiv doi:10.1101/2025.07.29.25332354

Beautiful day out so went on a mini-hike post-call and combined it with logging my first geocache in a year or two.

Should get back into geocaching, if only as an excuse to explore cool places I would not have thought of to go to otherwise.

Drove to a local airfield which has a well-regarded breakfast / lunch restaurant.

The French toast was out of this world.

Have done touch-and-goes there and used it for a XC checkpoint, but never “been” there.

Someday I hope to spend $400 to fly there to get the same food.

Who ever selected and arranged the images for Harvard Magazine wasn’t really thinking about how they looked together.

Solo long cross-country finally done! Air was a bit rough below 3000 feet especially for this #studentpilot, but the sky was clear enough to see checkpoints from WAY far away. Just a beautiful but bumpy day. As always, I could have flown better, but it's done!

Evolution of converting data into #studentpilot understanding:

Short-field takeoff POH performance tables
--> #dataviz plots of the tables
--> interactive #rstats #Shiny App for "What if?" analysis

Also fetches weather and runway info

(Needs runway refactor for small fields with no weather)

The weather still hates me. Green is visual flight rules (VFR); blue is marginal VFR. I'm in the Northeast.

Fun to compare SkyVector (limited # of reporting sites) vs. full data download from Aviation Weather Center and personal R script (previously described).

Wandered into an art museum and found this painting by Samuel Morse, of works of art from the Louvre (I only recognized the Mona Lisa).

Couldn’t help but thinking of identifying VORs by this guy’s code.

And I think it's an equal rite of passage to share a picture of the archaic materials -- here's mine from last October. :)

Did it manually the first time. Then went on to create spreadsheets and computer code. But will likely use ForeFlight in the future.
