I don't think that people who've never dealt with narcissists really understand this.

Unless you've had experience with people who are pathologically self-absorbed, & you've done the work to understand that their obvious behaviors/words are just surface stuff, then it's hard to fathom.

Sure, maybe he dragged out a portrait of FDR - but that doesn't mean he's really on Mamdani's side, or that he's now gotten more liberal. He did it for the photo op, which is alllll about attention. He'll be shilling for MAGA again tomorrow, mark my words.

He's easily swayed & will align himself with whatever cause is dangled in front of his face.

Don't try to make it make sense, because it doesn't if you frame it as a matter of political alignment. Look at it as a personality issue. *Then* it makes sense.

I don't think it useful to try to figure out whether Trump is a fascist or a Republican or a MAGA head or whatever, because ultimately, he's a *narcissist*.

What Trump is about is whatever is going to get him the most attention & approval at any given moment.

Helps me know where the collection is, that way I just have to sort through the box instead of an entire damn office or house.

Another #ADHD tip that's sort of the opposite of this: I put product manuals into ONE box. It's a bright red photo storage box w/a label that reads "product manuals". Put it where you can find it, like your workbench or a special spot in your office.

Or use a binder, whatever works.

That way, you always know where they are, & always have them when you need them, instead of forgetting what Box O'Crap you put them in or what black hole they vanished into.

Got something you take out seasonally, like a hammock stand? Keep the tools & extra parts in the box the Seasonal Thing(tm) lives in.

Curtain rods have extra parts? Cool, bag 'em up & hide them behind the curtain stackbacks.

DO NOT separate the Thing(tm) from the tool or extra part(s).

Instead, bag them up, label them, & store them with the thing you just built.

Like: just built an Ikea Kallax? Put the Allen wrench in a Zip-loc bag & tape it to the Kallax in an unobtrusive place.

So hey if I ever have some Great Project Idea(tm), feel free to steal it, I can come up with fun ideas ALL. DAY. LONG. & odds are I'll never actually get around to whatever it is - so I have ZERO objection if someone else takes the idea & makes it happen. Go for it, I can't get my shit together.

Well what are the odds that a) I'm actually gonna do this, & b) if I do, that I'll get farther than just ordering some beads & putting them in a Project Box(tm) to leave on my desk for months before shoving it in a closet somewhere?

Thought about this as a tangent from today's Great Project Idea(tm): I have a bazillion safety pins I don't really need. Idea: why don't I get a bunch of those teeny beads in rainbow colors & make little queer-friendly pins & just leave them around for ppl to find & take? Spread some rainbow joy?

...& then *maybe* work on whatever it was for like a week, then lose interest & never pick it up again.

This SOOOO tracks, subjectively. I can't count how many fun, stimulating *ideas* I've come up with over the years. Like I can get excited about a *possibility* & then... poof! That's enough.

So are a whole bunch of the writings & musings of the US Founders, really. They're chock full of ideas & words that the current US regime would probably hang them for, if said Founders were around today.

Rarely use the stuff today. Soap works fine for most cleaning stuff, baking soda is a pretty good scrubber, bleach for disinfecting most of the time.

Once in awhile, though... you just need something stronger.
