I just woke up to get the day started, wishing I could sleep in. Then I suddenly get an email from the school district that all schools are on a 2 hour delay due to the weather. Back to bed I go! 🙌🙌🙌

I’m so sad that the gardening season has come to an end for me. With my health being what it is I’m going to switch my focus next year to just my perennial fruit plants and trees, plus flowers to drag in beneficial insects for the fruiting plants. I don’t know if I’ll have the energy for…

I am going to save up for this set and buy it. It’s a need, not a want. #Trekkie

I saw the liver specialist this past week. They did a FibroScan and results indicated moderate fibrosis. I have to go for more bloodwork to see if I need a liver biopsy, and will also have a colonoscopy and endoscopy done in December with biopsies to check for a variety of things. Fun times.

If you want to help kids facing food insecurity, you can call local schools to see if they have food drives going on to specifically benefit students. Our district sends home weekend packs of food for students whose families have SNAP and participate in the free breakfast/lunch program.
We hit up Costco this morning to buy boxes of instant oatmeal for the food drive at Kid #1’s school and Costco was clean out which was unusual. Kid #2 and I will try Costco again Monday morning since kid #1’s school was assigned instant oatmeal for the district wide drive for the weekend food packs.

We just got flyers sent home from the school district about a district wide food drive to put together weekend packs of food for students experiencing food insecurity due to the loss of SNAP. Kid #1 asked about the flyer and I explained that not all families have the food that they need…

These are more than just "dots on a map."

They are events that happened in real places, to real people, and that have histories that helped shaped this country.

Their stories are mostly excluded & forgotten except from those who were there.

Kid #1 lost a tooth yesterday, and put his tooth out for the tooth fairy. Unfortunately the tooth fairy fell asleep on the couch at 8pm. Kid #1 woke up and cried, I felt awful. I told him I called the tooth fairy answering service and that the tooth fairy was still making her rounds but he woke up…

You should care about Jamaica and Sudan even if you don't know anyone there and the news isn't covering it. The anti-Blackness embedded in folks' lack of empathy is gross.

Good advice! Also, if someone wants to give "from their shelves," do not donate expired foods. This is a huge issue for local food banks, as they have to dump the food that is expired or near-expired. Also, if you'd rather donate purchased food, make it things you'd actually want to eat.

I am so happy there is now an RSV vaccine. I would have given anything for this vaccine when I was pregnant with the kids. I love science.
Pregnant? An RSV vaccine at 32–36 wks (during RSV season) passes protective antibodies to your newborn from day one. 🛡️🍼 #RootedInProtection

Really wish this was more commonly known. Maximize your impact and donate money. Food pantries can also use funds to purchase what they need in order to offer people a complete nutrition profile.
I spoke w/local food bank to ask what they needed to most as far as donations, and they requested cash instead of food donations as they can purchase what they need at a deep discount/wholesale rate. Just an FYI in case you were going to purchase food to donate vs. donating from your own shelves.

All I’m doing is relaying what the food bank’s volunteer told me on the phone. I do not have the ability to single-handedly solve this crisis.
Ask food banks

If they'd intervene
using deep discount to enable
Citizens fill own cupboards at home

Utilizing Food bank as middle man

Would resolve 70% of the issue

Manufacturer's set aside
large quantities for food bank

Receive Tax breaks

Please pivot to reaching out to those already doing THE WORK- and ASK them how you can SUPPORT them and their mission towards food security- especially with what is upcoming.

Alot more than those cans of old beans you don’t want to eat - is what is needed so “thank you“ to those who are ready

Food banks won’t turn down your food donations but if all possible, donate money. They have bargaining power and can make bigger purchases.

Oh and if you DO volunteer or donate to local resources at this time-please don’t treat it like a photo op…

If you must have photo memories of you giving and plan to make them public (🙄)please ASK FIRST…(though I promise we’ll give you the same interweb kudos cookies sans pics.
