I suppose I should make an introduction.
My name is Matt. I am a democratic socialist who resides in the Great White North (Canada). I have a deep seated love for archaeology and history, specifically that which revolves around the Early Medieval Period (I dabble with the Ancients).
Took me longer than I expected but I finished Jane Burbank & Fredrick Cooper's "Empires in World History: Power and the Politics of Difference". I highly recommend reading this if you're looking for a deep dive into the differing types of governance that empires and states used throughout history.

I finished Dr. William McNeill's 1976 bestseller a few days ago, and although it is somewhat dated, especially his sections about barbarians, it's an incredibly important book when discussing the history of plagues and I would wholeheartedly recommend it.

Recently finished reading Dr. Paul Cobb's The Race for Paradise: An Islamic History of the Crusades and I cannot emphasize how important this book is, especially when trying to understand the historical context of what is and continues to happen in Middle East.

Last week, I finished Christopher Beckwith's 2011 publication Empires of the Silk Road.
This is a key book for those wanting to understand Eurasian history, as it pushes back against the stereotypical presentation of Eurasians as "barbarians" and raiders.

I’m a recent doctor transplant from the U.S. to Canada.

The decline of medical ethics in the U.S. has devastated young American physicians who still believe medicine should help people.

Now’s an ideal time to recruit them to Canada. Let’s go! 🇨🇦
