Took me longer than I expected but I finished Jane Burbank & Fredrick Cooper's "Empires in World History: Power and the Politics of Difference". I highly recommend reading this if you're looking for a deep dive into the differing types of governance that empires and states used throughout history.

I finished Dr. William McNeill's 1976 bestseller a few days ago, and although it is somewhat dated, especially his sections about barbarians, it's an incredibly important book when discussing the history of plagues and I would wholeheartedly recommend it.

Recently finished reading Dr. Paul Cobb's The Race for Paradise: An Islamic History of the Crusades and I cannot emphasize how important this book is, especially when trying to understand the historical context of what is and continues to happen in Middle East.

Just finished reading Tanim Ansary's 2009 publication "Destiny Disrupted: A History of the World Through Islamic Eyes" and it was both an enlightening and engrossing read. I would argue that a book like this is particularly important in today's world, especially if one is looking

Last week, I finished Christopher Beckwith's 2011 publication Empires of the Silk Road.
This is a key book for those wanting to understand Eurasian history, as it pushes back against the stereotypical presentation of Eurasians as "barbarians" and raiders.

He'll be remembered well in the history books, courtesy of Trump's imperialistic ramblings.

I finished Dr. Baasanjav Terbish's 2023 publication a few days ago. It was a fascinating dive into sexual norms and practices of Mongolia, while emphasizing the dangerous pseudohistories that are peddleled by their nationalistic groups.
I highly recommend checking out this book!

Finished up reading Dr. Eleanor Barraclough's 2024 publication Embers of the Hands: Hidden Histories of the Viking Age.
It's an excellent book that examines the Viking Age through the lives of everyday people, and allows one to put themselves in the shoes of average people during the

Just finished @misikoff.bsky.social and @davidcorn.bsky.social's 2018 publication "Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin's War on America and the Election of Donald Trump" and it was both surprising and not at all surprising. I can't help but wonder how the Kremlin's influence will be

Wrapped up Jonathan Kennedy's 2023 publication "Pathogensis: A History of the World in Eight Plagues" last week, and I can't recommend it enough. It really pushes the reader to understand history from the perspective of the microbes and bacterium that were/are present.

I am not sure if you made a new account, but if you haven't, this person seems to be impersonating you.

Just finished Kenneth Clark's Civilisation and I wouldn't recommend it outright. I would only recommend it if one understands that it is a book from it's time (1969). Clark refers to black people with a certain term, uses the term 'Dark Ages', states that Islamic nations never produced art [1/3]

"We ought to judge of the conduct of men according to the notions of their age, not of ours, he observed in what is still a telling judgement on the historian's craft."
Recently finished Richard Oram's book on the build-up to and the reign of David I.
Highly recommend!

I recently uploaded a Tiktok about debunking a misconception about cats and the spread of the Black Death. The video is doing fairly well, but I didn't expect antisemitism to appear in the comments section, I suppose I should have known better.

I am truly a content creator now. Someone tracked down my inactive FB (I haven't used it in years) and sent me this long rambling message.

TLDR: Archaeology, and academia as a whole, is all a massive fraud and I am complicit in it.

If she's a fan of archaeology, you can't go wrong with Dr. Jarman's recent book. Absolutely fascinating stuff!
