While Chris's role with @dutchcycling.nl often involves travelling across the globe to talk glowingly about our cycling paradise, occasionally he gets to stay and show it directly to decision-makers.

This week, it was a high-level delegation from the Beijing Municipal Commission for Transportation.

Ukraine should accept no limits on its sovereignty that have not been accepted by other European countries. If it’s forced to do that, it will be accepting second class citizenship in Europe and the principle that Russia can treat it as a state with inferior rights

The PM has given a statement on Ukraine today.

He was asked several times about Reform's links to Russia...

Here is one question and answer.

"What other links are there between Reform and Russia?"

"No wonder they are Putin-friendly."

Operation Mincemeat is a comedy musical based on the British war time deception operation. It’s witty, musically brilliant and surprisingly emotional. Saw this afternoon and recommend it to anyone. Will be in Cambridge next year, currently in London’s Fortune Theatre. Written by the cast too.

I guess it’s a compliment that the top story on BBC London’s TV/online output today is a direct lift of a month-old London Centric story? But once again the BBC is consistently the worst news outlet for actually remembering to credit others.

Earlier this year the UK launched the Global Talent Fund to attract 60-80 of the worlds top researchers (& their teams) in areas relating to the UK's Industrial Strategy.

The first 4 have been named & are in the process of relocating to the UK: 3 are coming from positions in the US.

Just saying...

The energy transition happens often in unlikely places at unprecedented rates.

Take Nepal: Over the past year, electric vehicles accounted for 76 percent of all passenger vehicles and half of the light commercial vehicles sold in Nepal.

Five years ago, that number was essentially zero.

Stour at Henny Bridge has risen after recent rain and is also wider as a result. Detritus washed down has started to form a barrier to the flow where a fallen Willow lies in the stream. You can also see how the nearby bank is eroding as the flow is modified. The Little Egret had company today too.

Managed a short walk around the village before the rain returned, plenty of LT Tits and a nice couple of Goldcrests exploring arboreal Ivy. Grey Wag by Henny Bridge. Coal Tit in garden as I came back. No sign of the Redwings & Fieldfares so prevalent last week. #essexbirding

Last night was bonfire night for us, in a tradition stretching back 32 years started when our kids were small. Now the kids are grown and their kids are coming. We got very wet in the rain, dried by the fire, and wet again on return journey. A fine meal warmed us again. Pretty mad really 🤔

Repeating daily since Trump was inaugurated 🫠
Dear Europe, especially Germany,

Stop obsessing over what Trump will or won’t do. Hoping & praying America will step up so we don’t have to is dangerously stupid.

Step up yourself, destroy Russia’s war economy, & give Ukraine what they need to win.

Europe must defend Europe.

This government has not taken a single meaningful step to tackle the causes of the horrendous inefficiencies in the criminal justice system, instead rushing to dismantle trial by jury.

Legal professionals have offered numerous alternatives to address the backlog.

Ministers are not listening.
