The main reason anyone, anywhere "needs" more energy production is because CAPITALISTS hog it, to keep people working producing useless crap, to power their advertising & selling the same crap. End capitalism, the work it imposes, & the crap we've forced to produce = less energy needed.
The main reason any state needs energy is because data centers are hogging it …🔻

Now if this was the Canadian National Weather Service, they'd have added how you need to keep your block-heater plugged in at night, at home, at work & at stores so your engine oil doesn't freeze solid in -30 degree weather. 3yrs in Quebec made THAT essential precaution quite clear to me. 🥶

It is, unfortunately, a universal problem. Those who take to the streets & engage in other forms of struggle rarely have the time & energy to record their actions for the historical record. Few too are those who try to write it up. Make's it tough for those who later want to learn from it.
Prepping for teaching, and I'm appalled to discover how *little* detailed research exists on the Bristol Bus Boycott.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but it's no wonder there is so little awareness of the history of Black civil rights activism in the UK. Just a vicious cycle of ignorance.

These "mega-corporations" are just like all capitalist corporations. They are all devoted to imposing as much work as possible and extracting as much profit as possible to be invested in expanding work & exploitation. Capitalists are NEVER "on workers' side".
Apple is anti-union.

Tesla is anti-union.

Amazon is anti-union.

McDonald's is anti-union.

Starbucks is anti-union.

Google is anti-union.

Walmart is anti-union.

These mega-corporations aren’t on workers’ side and their actions make it painfully clear.

Maybe not in the UK, but in lots of other paces, including the US agriculture & trade policies have been intentionally manipulated to raise food prices & undermine real wages, in the early 1970s that led to boycotts & today by Trump. Often in the global south to transfer income to capitalists.

Moreover, in our essentially unregulated capitalist system, in which industries are allowed to poison air, water and land, NO person can avoid illness thru healthy practices of living, not in this toxic wasteland they create.
People need to understand how deeply eugenicist this is.

They’re insinuating that if you “take care of yourself” you will be healthy and should get affordable healthcare.

Disabled people can’t “healthy living” their way out of being disabled.

It’s not a moral failing.

We need healthcare too
Markwayne Mullin on healthcare: "What the president would like to do is say, hey, if you take care of yourself -- you don't smoke, you don't dip, you're not drinking, you're not overweight, you're working out -- then you should pay less than the guy that obviously is not taking care of himself."

It is not "big money" that must be gotten out of our politics, it is CAPITALIST MONEY, that's the "big money" that buys politicians & laws that favor exploitation, profit & the ravaging of the earth. Better: outlaw all modes of corruption. Best: end capitalism & create a democratic system of govt.
This is how our government has been corrupted:

1) Donors give huge sums to elect politicians to office
2) Elected officials rewrite rules in the donors' favor
3) Donors make huge profit
4) Repeat

We must get big money out of politics.

It is the root of our dysfunction.

"number one aspiration of working class people is not to be working class"? True. But why? Because: they are sick & tired (often quite literally) of having their lives subordinated to work. But that's how capitalists control society, so getting rid of it is the only path to the liberation of life.
What Lord Glasman doesn't understand is the number one aspiration of working class people is not to be working class.
The belief in education, hard work and getting their fair share of opportunity.
It's not getting a new flat cap and another whippet.

"Abolish Daylight Saving Time"? Why? Posts that make demands with no rationale for supporting them are annoying. In this case, if you're curious: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dayligh...

Only in capitalism, where selling yourself to business is necessary to survive, does education get reduced to job training, done well or not - at the expense of every other potential benefit of learning about life, history, politics, culture, other languages, ways of being, art, music, etc. 😡

In New Lexington, OH, students are getting a debt-free head start on high-paying careers before they even graduate. See how this innovative public school and IBEW partnership is building a brighter future, one apprentice at a time. This is the power of public education in action! #PublicSchoolProud

Good advice! One problem: because capitalists hide the animals they exploit, like cows, pigs & chickens, away on factory farms where they mistreat, torture & kill them, most folks never have the opportunity to touch such animals while they are still alive, much less get to know them as individuals.
Kindness - or nothing. 🙏

At the very least, they should quarantine Earth until we get rid of capitalism & start repairing all the damage it has caused to the planet, its critters & other life forms. David Brin is spot on in his "Uplift" novels.
The only conspiracy theory I subscribe to but don’t actually believe is one where the intelligent aliens won’t talk to us until we achieve communism.

Kindness is the bare minimum moral position. Better: imagine getting to know & developing friendships with animals like these. It's hard because capitalists keep them locked away in factory farms so you never get a chance to know them as individuals. End their subordination & welcome them as buds.

What's good about Hegseth's announcement is that it makes his - & the Trump Administration's - racism blatantly obvious for all to see and despise. Frankly, Native Americans are lucky there's nowhere for racist ICE goon squads to deport them, being from this land & all!
Trump’s Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth announced on Thursday that the 20 U.S. Army soldiers awarded the Medal of Honor, for their participation in the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre, may keep them.

This is nothing more than a disgraceful celebration of the Native American Genocide.

Hell, I'd ban the fascist pig from my driveway!
I hope everyone sees and understands why my tribe banned Kristi Noem from our reservation in Pine Ridge, South Dakota.

Sadly, economists like Robert only worry about these relationships when they reach an extreme. What he describes is ALWAYS the case within capitalism. It's how they set it up & how they have always run it. "Regular" [working] people only "have a voice" when they raise it in massive numbers.
Remember: The concentration of wealth in the hands of a few isn't just bad for our economy. It's corrosive to our democracy.

When the wealthy and well-connected control our political system, regular people don't have a voice.

The result? The demagoguery and corruption we're seeing now.

Subsidizing capitalists is one of the fundamental roles of the state within capitalism, either directly with money or indirectly by keeping real wages & standards of living of most people low so they'll report to work & earn profits for their bosses. The fossil fuel industry is only one of many.
Your daily reminder that the fossil fuel industry is propped up by billions of dollars in U.S. government subsidies and a multimillion dollar campaign to spread climate disinformation. 💵

Racial profiling in action...by racists, being paid to be racist, for the joy of the racists paying them by providing the spectator sport of racial harassment. That's ICE & its perpetrators in a nutshell. Racist pigs, one & all.
Republican Party uses ICE to cancel Christmas.🎄 🎅

Fascism stops at nothing.

Removing a monument honoring Black US soldiers has nothing to do with DEI. It’s erasure of history and it’s straight-up racism.

I'd be willing to bet that, in fact, the woman "looks her best" when she's "doing things that make [her] happy"! Makeup & all the rest are peddled by capitalists to make profits by convincing women (& men) that they are necessary to "look my best". Lies, but then it's all you can expect from them.

True! Wiping out inconvenient history & creating false historical narratives is standard fascist practice. It is also, unfortunately, also true of capitalism in general - just look at the treatment of slavery & the genocide of Native Americans in your schools' history books.
A couple years ago I worked on 12 grants in my role as a task force director at the Library of Congress. This year, zero. We are going to lose a lot of our public memory. Which is at the crux of fascistic mobilization.

Yep! They had the same idea when workers took over Paris & created the Commune in 1871 - it was one of the reasons they were massacred. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_C... If Mandami were really a "commie", he'd be organizing for a New York Commune.

LOL! I realized long ago, that if I wanted to always be able to eat what I like, I'd best learn how to prepare it. So, as my tastes & druthers widened, so did my skills, the number of cookbooks on my kitchen shelf & the clutter of once-exotic tools on my counters. Have fun!
The restaurant where I order my poke bowl changed their ingredients and upped the price. So I get less fresh food, more ultra processed crap, AND I have to pay more for that 🙄

So fine, I bought everything I need to make them now because fuck that shit

Like $25 for a rice bowl like come on
