Yeah I loved that they showed all those past-selves of the female character at the end. And then the post credits designs...makes me want to go look at some high fashion photobooks, and read some more fss

What did you think....the theater was so silent at the end LMAO I felt like the fss to xenogears to gothicmade loop has gone full circle with that final words on screen section. Sound design in the Mecha section was so cool tho and the sekaikan makes me wanna make Spiritual Mecha games ...

I always quit my playthroughs immediately at a little before the slog point (which I learned Nintendo forced retro to add to pad out the game). Also did you know the devs wanted autechre to do the OST lol

i just checked and the manuals have world maps! ruins the surprise a bit but on the other hand, it's a physical manual and not a single tempting button press away (filled with quest icons)

for better or worse based on the 30 minute cutscene at the start of DQ2 it feels like they turned dq1 and 2 into playable japanese daytime TV dramas. Which.. well.. okay... I am just not that interested in, but omg i cant believe they just flat out give you the WHOLE WORLD MAP right away

I do appreciate that it cares about character design, music, and being funny though, but there's this undercurrent of "vanilla cleanness" to it that feels a bit tame to me vs some of the contemporaries

Hard not to see parallels with how number grindy roguelites are popular now amidst capitalist success narratives, and how dq1 has that narrative of "if you just grind enough and make number go up you'll succeed "...which sounds like the mental logic of a booming 80s economy, nuclear family isms
