I train people to work in call centres for my sins and I do this all the time. Mainly naming the bad corporate training practices I manfully fight against on a daily basis. Ranging from abstract things like "the Trifle Problem(tm)" to the more literal "(presentations are) the death of all learning"
When I was studying design and copywriting, I was taught that ideas need names. If you can't name the idea, the idea isn't finished.
I'm somewhat convinced the same might be true for game design and naming rules. If you can't name it—or the name feels wrong—maybe the rule isn't baked yet.

Have to say, fascinated as I am by this particular era/moral panics/folk devils generally i can’t recall getting any grief* about RPGs in the UK late 80s-early 90s, closest we got in terms of hilarious societal freakouts was when popo addressed our school assembly as we were all nicking car emblems

This looks amazing and I love the black and white colour scheme. Songbirds 3e is a perfect lesson on how layout and intelligent design choices can make something look amazing without traditional style RPG art pieces. (Except for Charlotte's cover art)

If you want some historical context that Gygax etc al. were just following an ancient & ignoble tradition listen to The Ancients podcast episodes on Medusa, Mermaids & Lilith...
