Almost done with Hamlet.

It’s one of my favourites, but I think also a better fit for Sam’s ask. Lots of “lore” in the adventure, but Patrick is not interested in if the players figure it all out or not. It’s there for the very curious.

That’s true, Patrick’s stuff often has this sort of obscured approach. Silent Titans as well.

Ah I see what you’re asking now. Carcosa has terse descriptions for what’s happening in the world, spread between its hex descriptions, descriptions of its rituals, etc. But there is no over canonical summary, players (and the GM) may piece together what’s up. Maybe something in this vein.

I think this is part of what Jason is trying to tap into with his new game.
Oh, also, you can straight up read everything I've written for the game so far: drive.google.com/drive/folder...

Gotta finish these weirdos for Kill Team. Feel like they would be a good fit for Necromunda too.

That show is absolutely incredible, I didn’t realize it had started again. Deeply moving at time.

Yeah, I am pretty sure the ship has sailed on zine in RPG land. We can blame Mixam. I am curious if other scenes producing indie zines have similarly drifted from DIY and cheap. (At the comic festival in Toronto you still see simple comicbook zines.)

“Am I language policing here? Sure, why not. I think the original sense of the word matters and is worth preserving, worth insisting upon. I think zines, as a non-luxury print media are important.”

The man that brought you “Fuck You Design” brings you a rant about fancy-ass zines.
How to Not Do Zines Wrong
I’m not the first to remark that a lot of what we’re calling “zines” aren’t really zines. They’re fine, glossy magazines, or beautifully crafted books. While these products may share zines’ craft etho...

Play is and always has been free, it is books that cost and make money. The more time I spend in spaces where the discussion is about play more than about making and purchasing books, the happier I feel about my hobby.

This is a bit of a rant—to put it mildly—but I also think it's good advice all the same. When I was posting my Carcosa session recaps, notes, and advice, I was trying to highlight just how little I had done to make that game go. It shouldn't take much to start playing!

Great post. I agree with Ram that it is best to play procedures straight, especially if you are planning on playing over the course of several sessions. Sometimes things are chill, and sometimes everything is popping off at once and the plans of the PCs are for naught in the midst of pure chaos.
My first session of Mythic Bastionland was today. I was a little nervous, as I hadn't ran anything in over a year! (The last game I ran was the Mothership module Another Bug Hunt.) This was a quiet session, but fun all the same. Sometimes that's how the dice go. Some thoughts on my blog.
