We have a pair here in Chicago sitting on Montrose pier this week. The last two days they've had a pair of Peregrines fly in to dispute territory with them at 10am.

Happy #WorldAnteaterDay
🐾Anteaters are mammals
🦷They have no teeth
👅They use their long sticky tongues to eat 35,000 ants and termites per day!
🐜The are found in South and Central America (and London Zoo!)

Bats covered in pollen is my happy place 🥰
When you think of bats, you probably don’t think of pollination - but bats are crucial pollinators, and the key to creating a certain drink! 🍸

See an (adorable) bat covered in pollen and learn why a world without bats would be a world without tequila in this week’s Surprising Science. 🦇

Late yesterday afternoon I was lucky to find a very cooperative Eurasian Pygmy Owl in my garden.
It was chasing small birds and mice.

Bananas came by this evening and enjoyed our garden. I had a banana for him but I guess he was still hungry.

As you can see here, he has a huge number of scars on his body. He showed up a few days ago with terrible cuts that he had gotten from a fight with another tapir.

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

The Botany Bay Weevil was the first Australian insect to be scientifically described and named by the English botanist Joseph Banks in 1770. Here's a Botany Bay Weevil, 255 years later, in our laneway, snacking on wattle leaves. 🖤 💛 ❤️ 🇦🇺 🐨 🌱

This is Trigonopterus yoda and a species of flightless weevil from the subfamily Cryptorhynchinae. It is named after Yoda! Was first described in 2019, so a new fellow from Indonesia.

Bees covered in pollen is my happy place 🥰
My 11/05/ postcard features a honeybee buried in the bright yellow heart of a purple cosmos, its body dusted with pollen. The flower holds still while the bee does its work, a brief exchange of need and nourishment captured in a single moment. #Albuquerque

It was in the high 30s yesterday morning when I found Bullfrogs resting in the duckweed at Sequoyah Refuge. I didn’t expect to see Bullfrogs in cold weather.
