Conversely, if you want to experience a book without supporting the author-- for whatever reason-- buying used is best. Give money to a small/indie seller, none to the author.
(Also, a reminder that while buying new books gets authors paid, and using the library gets authors paid, buying used books doesn't. Not saying it's bad or wrong—you do you—but if you want to support the arts, getting books for free from your local library is way better than buying them used.)

It's okay to throw away a book. They're not sacred talismans. You can recycle it because it's bad, or because the author is awful, or for any reason. You do not need to keep it on your shelf or donate it or sell it or dump it in a little free library. It's not inherently more ethical to do so.

There is no "safe" place for niche kinks or darker content until paypros change their policies. This is why the call/letter campaign is so important-- sites like Patreon, Itchio, Steam, etc, have to bend the knee because they companies are SO HUGE and control the entire money flow. It's a mess.

If anyone could please help us, we'd be forever grateful. Our chaos child craved the wrong mineral and we can't afford to take her to the vet for EATING METAL. Plywood would be a permanent fix as opposed to cheap mesh that she really likes to claw up.
