Kal is more likely to have a notebook and a pen, but in his adult life, he's also been given a pistol for protection. He hates that he has to have it AND that he's had to use it.

20 years before the timeline I'm writing in now was the start of book (for now number) 3! and 20 before that was shortly after the end of book 1! And... 20 years before that, Loke still had parents and was not yet sent off to be a priestess.

For me, this is probably Tony James Slater. He's done a number of travel memoirs that are absolutely hilarious. I could never be that funny and it's not JRPG type adventure fiction, so almost no crossover there. But he also does sci-fi as Tyler Aston (i've only read the first book tho so far)

i wonder how much of Americans' views on driving vs. transit would change if they had to pay for gas/insurance/etc every time they turned on the engine

Why do I hurt myself with my own writing. I'm near the end of this particular story(line) and my gods does it hurt. Kalua's weeping, Muu's scrobbing (screaming/sobbing), and no one with them can console them at all.
