In a similar vein, Baltimore sat on Yaz for around 1200 PA in AAA over three seasons, before Zaidi acquired him and gave him a crack at the majors. 12.5 fWAR since.

Rogers was a great Giant, who should’ve made more money than he will. Remember that Bobby Evans sat on Rogers despite nearly 150 innings in AAA with an ERA around 2 in 2017-18. Didn’t get a shot at the majors until Zaidi took over.

I’ll post what’s coming in 2027 when I review the 2026 class next month. Need to circle back with folks to update info from Jan. I don’t believe they’re in on any of the top players. Might be a couple in the 1-2M range.
Do we know anything about 2027 class?

Signing a QO player this offseason has no impact on the international bonus pool for 2026 (Hernandez). It would be 2027’s that would be hit? Chapman and Snell signed in 23-24 offseason and pool penalty came in 2025 (Gonzalez). www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/mlb/san-fran... @alexpavlovic.bsky.social

Giants see Susac as a plus defender behind the plate. A big claim. BA had a different take on him entering 2025.

Oof. Nice bit of business by the Twins. Caraballo is interesting. Good year in DSL and was very young
FanGraphs reports the Twins will receive 17-year-old catcher Miguel Caraballo. He played in the Dominican Summer League this year.

Giants are acquiring C Daniel Susac from the Twins.
Susac was the lone position player selected in the MLB Rule 5 Draft, picked up by the Twins with the #4 pick. With a good glove and solid power, even for the PCL, he's a solid bench option for the Twins. High K and low BB limit upside, but he offers a stable backup C floor!

Only McGarry and Pushard were taken from this list. #dontknowball
Rule 5 RP targets:

1. Logan Workman (TB): SP in minors, great CH, ok FB/SL
2. Brendan Beck (NYY): ok 3 pitch mix, gets in zone
3. Chris Campos (LAD): bunch of average secondaries with feel to locate. FB looks better than results. Athletic
4. Griff McGarry: love FB, SL fine, have to bet on control

Miles being taken is not surprising. Guys who get in the zone with three quality pitches are going to be valued. No matter the injury history or experience. Let’s see if he sticks. Hanging on to someone like Meckler over him could look bad in a few years.
Rule 5 protection deadline is today, I think the Giants will protect:
RHP Will Bednar
RHP Spencer Miles

Just under the line for me:
RHP Gerelmi Maldonado

Bednar, 1R capital, 96-99 FB elite IVB, has shown SL feel in past. Miles, feel for strikes coming off TJ, 94-96 sinker, two good breaking balls.

Would you want:
Devers (29.1Y): 8/240, avg 3.5 WAR over last three years
Alonso (31.0Y): 5/155, avg 2.8 WAR

So they would be ok with just adding one moderately priced starter?

Hope someone in ownership group complains about the increased spend due to this.
In 2025, the 4th overall pick had an assigned slot value of $8,770,900 while the 15th overall pick had an assigned slot value of $5,114,200. A substantial leap, especially for a team that won't get any extra picks this year.

I wonder if this will impact their willingness to sign a QO player. Will have a higher bonus pool, so losing a later pick doesn’t hurt as much? Dunno.
The Giants moved up to the fourth overall pick via the MLB Draft lottery. They had originally been No. 12 in the pre-Draft order, so that’s a huge jump for them.

Randy Winn, fittingly, served as their Draft lottery representative.

That’s like a 88-90 win team as it stands. Pretty optimistic!
Here's an early look at the ZiPS x @fangraphs.com depth chart for the next ZiPS team, the San Francisco Giants.

I was questioning how I went about creating this list when I noticed 4/9 weren’t written up by BA in their preview. But Workman and Gillies have been added this morning. Only missing De La Cruz and Bayless now. www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2025...

I like a Luis Matos for Bryce Elder swap. Giants have an opportunity to get more out of Elder. He’s not in ATL’s rotation as it stands, and out of options. Matos might be better than Eli White? Dunno.

I think I like Bednar more than anyone on the list 😬
Rodriquez to me fits what they've been trying to develop. Hope Bednar doesn't get picked.

I’m guessing Gallen signs with Cubs for close to what Bob posted
December 6, 2025 at 7:53 PM
I thought I would take a quick look at Rule 5 eligible relief options. Now I’m like 30 pitchers deep watching video. I need to seek help.

I’ll post a top 5 on Monday, haven’t been too enthused by anyone, but RHP Chris Campos (LAD) is interesting.

Hope PIT gets him right.
The Giants announced that former top prospect Marco Luciano was claimed off waivers by the Pirates. They now have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
