The world is becoming more uncertain and it's time for Canada to invest big in ourselves.

The good news is, no G7 country is better positioned to do so. We have low debt to GDP...

The hypocrisy of Premier Smith's current Chief of Staff, Rob Anderson:

The government is acting like a "dictator" by ripping away legal rights to impose a settlement.

"That's wrong. That's not the Alberta way. That's not what we do here."

Alberta is the wealthiest province in Confederation, but you'd never know that by looking at the way it funds its public schools and their students. At some point, voters might want to think about what that says — and means — @maxfawcett.bsky.social writes.
Alberta is the richest province in the country — except where it really counts
How does the province with the highest fiscal capacity in the country also have the lowest per-capita funding for students in its public schools? Because it wants it that way

A lot of questions today about how Danielle Smith -- the "libertarian" and "conservative" -- could use closure & the notwithstanding clause to remove Albertans' Charter rights.

The answer: she's neither libertarian nor conservative.

Is the province or her party, though? We'll soon find out.+

456,365 signatures!

This is a historic mobilization of Albertans by @lukaszukab.bsky.social and his team with #ForeverCanadian!

More than needed by HALF!!!

This is more than a full quarter of votes cast in the last provincial election!

Today, I submitted 456,365 Albertans’ signatures to Elections Alberta, petitioning the Premier to do the right thing, avoid a divisive and economically harmful referendum, and allow MLAs to vote and reaffirm that Alberta’s future is in Canada.🇨🇦

When he says “record education funding” he means in nominal terms — and forgets to mention that nominal funding is almost always at record highs.

On a per-student basis, and after adjusting for inflation? It isn’t even close.
The notwithstanding clause is literally about stripping charter rights that can’t be reasonable suppressed under section 1.

But anyways, Danielle Smith’s left hand guy has some thoughts that he’s comfortable tweeting…

Quick musing - I wonder how the courts will look on any UCP back-to-work legislation for teachers when it was the government who ended up locking teachers out? Can't claim "emergency" when you created the situation...

At some point next week, when "inconvenience" becomes "struggle" for Alberta's families due to the teacher strike - remember that the issue isn't "greedy teachers". The issue is and always has been incompetent government.
