It’s one thing for a social group to think themselves a ‘chosen people’ for religious or cultural reasons. But to enshrine a special status in Australian law is offensive to everyone else, and just plain weird.

Frydenberg’s comments are misleading because they conflate two very different situations: a politically motivated mass terror attack linked (at least narratively) to post–October 7 antisemitism, and the Bondi killings by a man described by police as having isis issues driven by ideology.
