As we all wait for Callais to come down, our piece showing that Shelby County increased the racial turnout gap in most of the covered parts of the country has cleared the replication check and is incoming at JOP.

Gutting the VRA was bad, actually.

Milling around awkwardly on a sidewalk somewhere, which is mostly what we've seen, isn't so manifestly unlawful it can't be left to the courts and lawyers to sort out. An unlawful order to use force, to injure or kill people, is the core case where immediate on-the-spot refusal is your legal duty.

Well said!!
1/ Egalitarianism should begin at home. I link to this article by @bencasselman.bsky.social in light of the communications between Larry Summers and Jeffrey Epstein that have just been released. The released emails and the fact of friendship are vile.

What I first said in sarcasm I increasingly think is a real thing to consider:

Move SCOTUS to a strip mall in rural Kansas.

We can’t fire them. Impeachment* is functionally dead. The 18-yr term thing is a fantasy.

But we can kill a lot of their perks.

Bet Kav would retire fast.
Devastating piece on the human toll of Kavanaugh Stops.

Especially infuriating to know that rich white guys like Brett K can simply close their eyes to the human suffering their racist jurisprudence has unleashed.
For two months, the U.S. government has been racial profiling as masked federal agents hunted for immigrants throughout Chicago. They’ve repeatedly snatched up U.S. citizens while traumatizing communities. “I felt like a piece of trash.” Here is our story www.chicagotribune.com/2025/11/15/l...

Great piece by Zadie Smith. When the right talks about classics or "Western" culture, these works are only important to the extent that it demonstrates their superiority, they have no interest in art in and of itself beyond that www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

And it's hard to build that branding back when Democrats have to go hat in hand to the wealthy or they'll get swamped by a flood of GOP spending. SCOTUS has created a political system where money talks, and boxing out the populist left is not an accidental byproduct. 5/

unlike the rest of these folks (and unlike appellate judges and supreme court justices), the job of a district judge is essentially to see what's in front of them
It's very striking how clearly they seem to see what's right in front of their faces in way that so many others -- law firm partners, university presidents, members of congress, and on and on -- refuse to.

Retweet as this, in two crisp sentences, is the platonic ideal of a social media post:
