I’m at an anti-ICE protest in Encinitas, California.

Protesters have gathered on both sides of 10 lanes of traffic. Hard to get more Californian than that.

Two Latin American strongmen were charged with drug trafficking. One was captured as part of a military raid, the other is free thanks to a Trump pardon.

In 1975-76, Randy Jones' array of sliders, sinkers and 70mph fastballs induced nothing but weak ground balls, and he became a 2X 20-game winner, an ERA champ & Cy Young Award winner. Arm injuries didn't allow him to return to that level, but he remains one of the best pitchers in Padres history.
Obituary: Randy Jones (1950-2025)
Like most expansion teams, the San Diego Padres spent their first few seasons flailing in the standings. The team didn't have a pitcher reach double-digit win totals until its second year of existence in 1970, and it didn't have a starting pitcher with a win-loss record above .500 until 1971. In fact, during the Padres' first five years of existence, a Padres pitcher either led the National League in losses or tied for the lead three times. Then along came Randy Jones. Though he too was tagged for a league-leading loss total in his first full year in the majors, he bounced back to have what still rank among the great seasons by a pitcher in Padres history.

Celebrating political violence is bad. It usually encourages more political violence, against various targets.

Campus shootings are bad. They make everyone on campus less safe.

It's bad that what I wrote here is controversial.

Unfortunately the Padres were not prepared to play tonight’s game. Shildt (or whoever decides base running strategy) killed the game early, with Cease not being able to throw strikes. 6 walks in 3 inning is little league stuff.

Padres replace 2 pitchers, Kolek & Bergert, w/ Miller & Sears. With King coming off the IL and Cortes coming soon.

They add 1B O'Hearn, OF Laureano, C Fermin, and INF Wagner.
Probably send down or DFA Trenton Brooks, Tyler Wade, Bryce Johnson, and someone?
That's a significant roster upgrade.

The key to beating the Padres Yuki Matsui is to not swing. He relies on his the opponent to chase. The pitches MUST look good to the batter because he can get outs, but he does not hit the strike zone. Like ever.

Padres Don and Mud, don’t forget that Manaea admitted that he didn’t try his best in a Padres uniform. ERA bound to suffer when you don’t care what happens.
