France modifies its FDI frigate to use Camm and Camm-ER missiles

Excellent news at it allows the frigate to house 4 times as may missiles

With current versions having 16 or 32 missiles for Aster 15 and 30, this would significantly increase its capabilities

Not often I agree with Gabriel Zucman, but he is right the "euro-sclerosis" thing is overdone. Europe has a long-term productivity issue it needs to handle, yes. It also has an industrial-heartlands/China problem. But the idea it is getting vastly poorer than the US is economically illiterate.
It has become received wisdom in Brussels and Washington that there is a new “euro-sclerosis”: that the EU economy is lagging the US

This view is wrong

A little primer on the measurement of productivity – and why reports of the economic death of Europe are greatly exaggerated🧵

NYT: President Trump’s agenda for second term remains ambiguous

Trump: I WANT TO BE A DICTATOR

NYT: it’s such a riddle
Trump: "We have to be unified. China is unified because they have one vote -- that's President Xi. He says 'do it' and that's the end of that. We have a different system."

it's been said that the ideological foundation of the LPC is "winning elections".

both cynical and accurate...but Gerry Butts had a point when he said "you can't change anything if you don't win".

It's wild. We have so many real problems as a country, and instead a large chunk of our political class would rather hallucinate that one of the safest big global cities in the world is actually dangerous.
The "London = most dangerous place on the planet" discourse is still going strong on Twitter

I've actually been surprised by how little I've felt threatened as a woman in London (having lived in Tooting and Peckham)

I loved growing up in Nottingham, but I had much, much worse experiences there tbh

This is not the end of the transatlantic relationship. It‘s the end of the transatlantic relationship as we know it - and this distinction is crucial. My thoughts for WPR.

Britain cannot rely on the US any more.

Which means we need to be strategically independent. The only way this happens is to start from scratch.

Trade needs to be oriented to Europe.

We need to scoop up all the brilliant scientists being driven out of America.
I can’t help thinking that when, in future, people ask what UK political leaders said as it became undeniable that US saw European liberal democracy as its no1 strategic foe, Starmer and others will regret that the answer is “not much, shuffled awkwardly, looked at their feet”.

This should be a wake up call to Keir Starmer. Trump is not a reliable ally.

Trump wants to weaken Europe and carve up Ukraine while cosying up to Putin. Britain and our allies in Europe must stand together against his threats and bullying.
