As I know from having editing-proof and advance backer PDFs of my own work show up on pirate sites, your "honest book piracy platforms" take Advance Reader Copies, review PDFs, in-progress production files, and advance-draft files from crowdfunding projects.

Unlike big music labels, book publishers operate on razor-thin margins. Many authors publish through small publishers, quite a few self-publish, and the technology for digital publication, sales and distribution has existed for a quarter-century.

I specifically wanted to find a screen reader demo of this, because traditionally, PDFs were print paradigm. They are not automatically accessible. Remediating PDFs means dealing with the structure of the file, BUT there are things you can do to make it a bit easier even as manuscript / text stage.

Not only can the country absolutely afford to do a lot more good things that help people– in housing, healthcare, infrastructure, and environment– there is no reason not to do it. Pretty simple: We should do big things that help people and not do things that hurt people. bsky.app/profile/cost...
How many times in your life have you heard a member of Congress or someone on TV say “we can’t afford it” when talking about something small but very important? It’s been happening my entire life. We can’t afford it? They’re putting seven times the annual budget of the EPA into immigrant detention.

The history of alt text goes back to 1993. The alt attribute was introduced for HTML 1.2 to be used for text-based browsers, which load faster by not loading most of the graphic content.

This is so common though! So many people just believe that Someone Will Sort It All Out and that there's ultimately a Boss Of Everything who sort of keeps things in line. They genuinely don't know that politics is real and not just a game they play.

One said Ruth Bader Ginsburg would rule in our favor. The other didn't know Roe v. Wade had been overturned and said the court couldn't have ruled the way it did in 303 Creative because it would have been all over the news.
